Do's and Dont's

I am new to local tournaments. As a nonboater, what is typical courtesy I should be aware of on someone elses boat?

Common courtesy's for non-boater are:

Offer to pay the launch fee
Todays market demands $3+ per gallon for gas, offer a little money for fuel
If the boater hooks a fish, stop fishing and grab the net (This goes both ways)
If the boater has a special honey hole, keep this to yourself
Take enough poles with you but not so many that they take up all boat space
Strike up a conversation, get to know each other on the water
Get to the launch early so when the boater arrives, you can put your gear into the boat prior to launching
Provide assistance to the boater, ask to help with launching the boat

Being a non-boater can and usually is a very rewarding experience. You can learn about new lures. techniques, patterns, and approaches used for a multitude of conditions.

Along the way you might also find a good friend!

Don't smoke in the other guys boat unless he says it's OK. Burn holes in carpet don't just rub out.

Don't put you shoes on his gelcoat gunwhales and grind the sand in. Scratches don't just rub out either!

I used to smoke, don't anymore. I only own aluminum boats so the second one I have to always remember.

As a non boater for the Bassmaster Weekend series this is what i do and I dont have any problems
1. show up early. help with the launch and pay for it.
2. only bring tackle you know you are going to use. same goes for rods.
3. respect his boat like it was your own.
4. net his fish
5. start some small talk but dont talk his head off.
6. I ask the boater to let me know in advance when he is going to move so i can have my rods and tackle stored proberly and my life vest on. I dont want my boater waiting on me.
7. If you know the lake well offer advise but dont demand. If you want to demand fishing hole get your own boat.
8. be fiendly no matter you much of a axx-hole he is. if both are mad tends to make for a long day.
