Line Capacity

Hey, i really dont know what line cap is right for most applications, for lb test 8-20, how much do you guys put on?

almost all reels tell u how much and what prefered lb line 2 use ex: 6 lb 140 8 lb 120 10 lb 100, just look on your reel and u should find the answer

Also, some spinning reels have lines on the spool itself that show the max fill level. Baitcasters typically have a bevel.

Thanks Brendan! I didn't know what those lines on the spool were for.

That is all good advice. As a rule of thumb if there are no specs for line capacity on your reel..... leave at least 1/8 of an inch from the top of the line fill to the lip of the spool.

On baitcasters in particular it is not good to have the line higher than a level where it can exit horizontal to the guide. If the line is too high and has to go "down" before it exits through the guide on a cast it may cause backlash or poor casting distance.

A basic principle is the less your line has to change direction during a cast, the better distance you will get.
