Dayton Ohio Fishing Report for Nov. 8

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

Caesar Creek Lake: Try musky fishing in the mornings with large bucktails and crankbaits. The action has been good in shallow water with 38-inch and 42-inch muskies caught recently. Fish the mouths of coves in 12 feet of water to catch black crappies. Try jigs early and then switch to minnows as the day moves along. Saugeyes are still hitting on the flats near Walker Island. Try dragging a minnow or nightcrawler. For bass, fish just off of the banks around wood with spinners or plastics. Bluegills are still taking waxworms near stickups.

Indian Lake: Despite recent windy conditions, saugeyes are still biting around bridges and Dream Bridge in particular. Most of the action has been trolling with Vib-E's, Husky Jerks and Rat-L-Traps. Some are using jigs tipped with bass minnows. Action has been pretty good off of the south bank. Crappies have been hitting minnows and jigs around Moundwood. A large number of bluegills were recently caught at Lucy's Pond.

Lake Loramie: Good saugeye fishing has been reported around the Luthman Road and Ohio 119 bridges. Also fish over the trenches on the east end of the lake. The best baits have been Vib-E's and stick baits such as a Husky Jerk or Smithwick Rattlin Rogue. Or you can use a bass minnow fished off the bottom under a slip bobber. Fish the deep water around brush for crappies. Bluegills are around lily pads. Catfish are hitting minnows and worms all over the lake.

Grand Lake St. Marys: Perch measuring 11-12 inches have been caught off of both beaches and near Harmon's in recent days. The best method has been to use a minnow, waxworm or piece of nightcrawler fished just off the bottom. Crappies are still being caught from under docks and pontoons on minnows and jigs. Catfish are being caught off of the rocks on nightcrawlers, chubs and shrimp.

Paint Creek Lake: Crappie fishing continues to be good. The larger fish are being caught around wood off of bluff walls at depths of 7-9 feet. Use minnows or black/chartreuse tubes. Saugeyes have been biting off of the flats on tubes and minnows. For bass, fish in 4-5 feet of water with black/blue plastics.

Rocky Fork Lake: Bass fishing continues to be good off of points. Anglers are using spinners or crankbaits fished 5-7 feet deep. The best crappie fishing has been around the docks at the old restaurant or at the south wall. Fish deep and use minnows. Saugeyes have been hitting twisters on lead-head jigs off of the north and south beaches. Catfish are taking cut shad off of the north beach.

C.J. Brown Reservoir: Walleye fishing has slowed. The best action has been for crappies and bluegills around the marina. The larger crappies are coming from 8-10 feet of water, mostly on minnows. Bluegills have been hitting waxworms and redworms around the artificial structure near the ramp and under docks. For channel cats, fish the north end of the lake with nightcrawlers or bass minnows.

Lake Erie: Windy conditions and stained water have limited fishing in recent days. On calm nights, the walleye fishing should be good off of piers and near rocky shorelines. During the day, the key is finding schools of baitfish. For perch, try Kelleys Island Shoal, north of the Marblehead Lighthouse or around the northern cans of the firing range when conditions permit.
