Lower Mountain Fork River: January 28. Flyfishing would have been very challenging! The fish have been very active lately near the surface. While a dry fly will sometimes work, an emerger would be a better choice. You can also twitch your dryfly to break the surface tension of the water and fish it just under the surface. Best to choose a small fly, say about a size 18 or much smaller is even better. Lots of fish have been caught on size 22-26 lately. And then there's the wooly bugger since its not an insect imitation, (more of a minnow or crawfish) it can be a lot larger and still work fine. Report submitted by Beavers Bend Fly Shop.

McGee Creek: January 28. Elevation 9 inches below normal, water 48 and clear. Largemouth bass fair on soft plastic lures and jig and pigs, at 16-30 ft. over submerged humps.
