LAKES
AMADOR: More than 5,000 pounds of trout are being planted each week. Boat anglers have a distinct advantage given the lake is down 42 feet and shoreline access is precarious. Drift Power Bait or nightcrawlers for best results. 209-274-4739, 274-6996

BERRYESSA: Trout are found from the surface to 20 feet. Salmon are deeper and near the dam. Smallmouth bass will take plastics thrown in rocky area. 707-966-7708

CAMANCHE: Trout are moving upstream where releases from Pardee provide cooler water. Shore anglers can score at the North Shore Peninsula or Chevron Point on the South Shore. The South Shore Pond has been providing trout to those getting to the bottom with Power Bait or nightcrawlers. Bass fishing is good for those working the weeds near submerged islands. 209-763-5914, 763-5166

CHABOT: Trout fishing is good for trollers pulling Kastmasters or Rapalas. Shore anglers get three to five trout per outing using Power Eggs or nightcrawlers. 510-247-2526

CLEAR: Bass are chasing bait fish all over the lake (shad & silver-sides). They are hard to catch, but if you keep at it your catch for the day should be in the 20s. Clients of guide Richard Pounds did well last week considering the amount of pressure on the lake from a recent tournament. Anglers averaged more than 20 bass per trip with bass to 4 pounds or more. Most were caught on a Carolina-rig using a baby-brush-hog in watermelon-candy and a Persuader jig in orange/brown in water from two to 15 feet mid-lake and south. A variety of lures have been working for the tournament, with the swimbait being the best for bass more than 10 pounds. 707-279-4739
CONTRA LOMA: Trout fishing has been so-so with most anglers getting one or two fish with nightcrawlers or Power Bait. 925-757-0404

DEL VALLE: Trout fishing has been excellent. Limits are common and many of the trout are in 4- to 6-pound class with bigger fish also in the mix. The Narrows has been the most productive area. Small striped bass are being caught near the Marina. 925-449-5201

LAFAYETTE: A 9-pound trout was the highlight last week. Shore anglers in the south end of the lake do well, as well as trollers all over the lake. 925-284-9669

LOS VAQUEROS: The South Cove is productive for trout and an occasional salmon. Trout are being planted on a regular basis in the South Cove. 925-371-2628

NEW MELONES: Crappie fishing may be the best bet. Fish over submerged brush down 25 feet near Carson, Mormon and Bear creeks. Live minnows and jigs work best. 209-586-2383

QUARRY LAKES: Fishing success is mixed. Phil Garvan of Fremont caught an 11-pound trout from Fishermen's Row using Power Bait. 510-795-4883

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: Closed for the season; will reopen in February. 510-223-1661

SHADOW CLIFFS: Trout fishing has been good for both shore anglers and trollers. Trout plants of 1,500 pounds have gone in over the past week.

SHASTA: The lake has turned over, and the bait is deep. That means the trout are even deeper. The few bass being caught are on the small side. 530-275-4939

TRINITY/LEWISTON: Bass fishing is very good on the lake. The low pressure will slow the fishing for a day or two but typically picks. Lewiston is producing trout for trollers employing Rapalas. 530-623-4999, 623-4352

Hi nnmarsh,

Here's what I found. There is also a number you can call for a local tackle shop:

BLYTHE: Still some fair to good flathead action. The fish are in the 15 to 25-pound range. The channel catfish bite is good, too, on mackerel and anchovies. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are also good in the afternoons on plastics. Lots of fish to three pounds reported. Bluegill are fair to good in the backwaters on worms.

Information: B&B Bait 760-921-2248.

Here's the rest of that report for Colorado River Area:

COLORADO RIVER

LAKE MEAD: Excellent striper action on jig-n-spoons, especially in the morning at Sand Island, Government Wash, or 33 Hole. Live baits are working in the back of Vegas Wash by the green buoys. The fish are in the four to five-pound range. Trolling crankbaits in the Gregg Basin is also a good bet. The nighttime striper bite, under submerged lights, is good. Bluegill are biting in the backs of coves in the early morning. Largemouth action fair in the backs of coves with some topwater action. Catfish are biting anchovies all day. The ramp is open at South Cove.

WILLOW BEACH: Fair to good striper bite. The stripers are biting trout-like swimbaits, A.C. Plugs, or anchovies. Top catch was a 17 pounder. Fair catfish action on nightcrawlers, mackerel, chicken liver and shrimp. Some nice rainbows on cheese balls, Power Bait, Roostertails, worms or spinners. Trout plant every Friday. Information: 928-767-4747.

LAKE MOHAVE: Spotty striper bite, but good at times when the fish are up chasing shad. Anchovies, shrimp, swimbaits, or squid have been best baits. Davis Dam and Telephone Cove are the best fishing spots. The lake will be planted with trout Nov. 15. Information: 702-297-1464.

BELOW DAVIS DAM: Trout plants go in every week. The fishing is exceptional immediately following each plant. Very good striper and catfish action near Harrah's Casino on anchovies. Some good stripers have been landed along the Big Bend area. Some good smallmouth action at Davis Camp.

NEEDLES: Fair to good striper action on small fish downriver in the Topoc area. A few catfish are starting to show and some crappie are also biting in the gorge. Information: Premier Sports 760-326-2727, Golden Shores 760-768-2325.

TOPOCK MARSH: Good striper bite. Nothing exceptional in size, but some fish in the three to six-pound range. Bite best on anchovies and sardines. Catfish action excellent on mackerel, anchovies, worms or shrimp in the cattails and in the wood, especially in the early morning. Bass bite fair in the early morning and evening on topwater plastics. The marsh can be accessed by boat at North Dike, Catfish Paradise, and Five-Mile Landing. Information: 928-768-2350.

HAVASU: The stripers are chasing shad in the coves and off the docks. Striper action also good after sunset in the northern part of the lake and up into the river. The largemouth and smallmouth bites have slowed, but some are still being landed on straight-tailed soft plastic worms. Good channel catfish bite on cut squid or mackerel in the evening after 6 p.m. near the bays and in the coves. Information: 760-663-3811.

PARKER STRIP: Good smallmouth bass action on crankbaits and topwater lures. Fair catfish action. The flatheads are biting goldfish and bluegill all along the lower river. Information: June's Unique 928-669-8883.

PALO VERDE: Fair to good flathead action all along the lower river. The river levels are up and fishing pressure is still light, but there's fair bass and bluegill action in the backwaters, and an excellent carp bite on fish to five pounds. Use plastic worms for the bass, wax worms for the bluegill, and dough for the carp. Cibola Lake has a fair flathead bite on bluegill and goldfish and blue catfish are showing on chicken livers. Some bass have also been landed in the main river. Information: Walter's Camp 760-854-3322.

PICACHO AREA: Fair flathead, channel cat, bluegill and striper bite. The largemouth bite broke open and the action is good.

MARTINEZ LAKE AREA: Good largemouth bite on cranks, spinnerbaits and plastics. Channel catfish bite decent on anything that stinks, and the crappie bite is also fair on small live minnows. More and more flatheads are showing in the main river, too. Information: 928-783-9589 or http://www.martinezlake.com.

YUMA AREA: The Gila Main Canal in East Yuma is still fair for channel catfish and large redear and bluegill. All biting on worms. In the main Colorado River, the channel catfish bite has been fair on chicken liver or worms dipped in stink bait, but there is very light fishing pressure and very few flatheads have been reported.
