Cabo San Lucas: Yellowfin bite has taken over here, with good fishing southwest of the Jaime Bank. Tuna schools running with the porpoise. School fish in the 10-to 20 pound range, but lots of fun to chase and catch. The Gaviota Fleet's catch reflected the week with 47 trips producing 253 yellowfin tuna, 6 striped marlin, 6 mako sharks, 5 dorado, 21 sierra.

Mazatlan: The Aries Sportfishing Fleet reported good fishing for yellowfin tuna, with fair action for billfish. The 29 trips produced 137 yellowfin tuna, 4 striped marlin, 1 mako shark, 1 dorado and 61 skipjack. The inshore super pangas reported that eight trips produced a bottomfish bonanza.

La Paz: Yellowtail action continues to impress off Muertos Bay, with some other action for pargo, roosterfish and cabrilla also happening.

Noteworthy: Barry Taylor, Corona, 22.75-pound rainbow trout, Santa Ana River Lakes in Orange County. Lake manager Jim Davis caught the next largest trout there last week, landing a 22-pound trout Saturday while fishing near the boat dock. Interesting note about Taylor's fish is it took him over an hour to land on his ultralight 2-pound test line and outfit. Both big trout were fooled with rainbow Nitro Bait doused with Nitro Grease. Not only big fish, but nice limits of trout taken, too. Johnny Castro, Santa Ana, had four rainbows that weighed in at 16-8, including a 13-pounder. All were caught on rainbow Nitro Bait fished near the boat dock. Mark Walker, Los Angeles, weighed in his heaviest trout from a fine stringer. His best went 8-8 and hit green Nitro Bait. This is the lake that still reportedly has two 30-pound rainbows swimming in it. Eagle Claw still has a bounty on a new state record fish. If the 28-plus pound state and lake record is broken using Eagle Claw Nitro baits or bait additives, the lucky angler can claim a $500 prize. If an Eagle Claw hook is used, he or she is eligible for another $500.
