LAKES
AMADOR: Trout, bass and crappie all are becoming easier to catch. Trout are in the top 10 feet all over the lake. Bass are chasing shad and on spawning beds. Crappie to three pounds are being caught from the dock. No signs of catfish. 209-274-4739, 274-6996.

BERRYESSA: Trout fishing is easy for those trolling Needlefish and a flasher 20 feet below the surface. Smallmouth bass are off rock points and off the Big Island. Crappie fishing is good in the morning. 707-966-7708.

CAMANCHE: Trout have moved deeper -- 20 to 30 feet below the surface. Trollers who can adjust do well. The South Shore Pond is producing well for bait anglers. Bass are in pre-spawn and some are in full spawn and catch and release is recommended. 209-763-5914, 763-5166.

CHABOT: Trout fishing is improving as the water continues to clear. A plant of a ton of trout by DFG hasn't hurt. Bass fishing is fair. 510-247-2526.

CLEAR: Lots of 3- to 4-pound bass are being caught, but there are also plenty of 5- to 7-pounders getting hooked. The upper end of the lake above the State Park has been the most productive stretch. Minnows, jigs and Senkos are productive. 707-279-4739.

CONTRA LOMA: Trout fishing has been slow. A few are being caught near Channel Point by boaters. Shore anglers are having a tougher go of it. 925-757-0404.

DEL VALLE: Trout, black bass and striped bass all are being weighed in with frequency here. Trout are being caught near the Marina, the Narrows and Heron Bay. Power


Bait and worms attract trout. Black bass are along the tree lined shore. Bass are in the 1- to 3-pound class. Striped bass in the 20-inch class are being caught in Swallow Bay and the Narrows with fire tiger Rapalas. 925-449-5201.

LAFAYETTE: Trout fishing has been so-so here. Bonus plants this week may help. There will be a trout derby hosted by the Outdoor Sportsmen's Coalition of California Saturday at Lafayette Reservoir, 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The OSCC will also host a seminar for the derby tonight at 7 at the Martinez Gun Club at 900 Waterbird Way in Martinez. 925-284-9669.

LOS VAQUEROS: When it's not windy, anglers are catching both trout and salmon along the eastern shoreline, the South Cove and the Rock Wall. 925-371-2628.

NEW MELONES: Kokanee fishing is good off Glory Hole Point. Fish at daybreak can be found eight to 15 feet below the surface. The fish retreat to 25 feet later in the morning. Rainbow trout are in the same areas. 209-586-2383.

OROVILLE: Bass fishing has been good for those tossing plastics in the forks. Days of more than 30 fish aren't uncommon. Most bass are 1 to 2 pounds but a few in the 3- to 4-pound class are being caught. 530-538-2200, 533-4990.

PARDEE: Trollers find trout and kokanee in the River Arm between Rock Wall and Columbia. Fish continue to move deeper as the water warms. Bank anglers are getting fish from the deeper water near the Recreation Area, specifically Rainbow Point, Blue Heron Point and Stony Creek Landing. 209-772-8108.

QUARRY LAKES: Trout fishing has been on the slow side. Action has been best on Fishermen's Row with bait. Biggest fish of the week was a 14.6 trout caught by Ron Louie of Fremont at Kiosk Cove. 510-795-4883.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: Nearly 14 tons of trout have gone in here since February. Hot spots are the Main Recreation Area, the Pines, Sandy Point, Scow Canyon and the Rock Wall. Trout are found from the surface to 10 feet below. Bass are in post-spawn. 510-223-1661.

SHADOW CLIFFS: Two plants totaling 1,500 pounds are going in this week. It should keep a solid bite going.

SHASTA: Trout fishing is on the slow side but bass fishing has been good. Bass are moving up into the shallows. Males make up most of the catch. Throw plastics off the main body points. 530-275-4939.

TULLOCH: Rainbow trout are in the river arm from the south shore to the marina. There's also a bite in the Green Springs Arm. Use rolling shad or Ex-Cel lures and get down 20 feet. 209-586-2383.

TRINITY/LEWISTON: Bass fishing remains excellent on Trinity Lake. Every point is holding bass down two to three feet. Toss just about any lure off the bank and retrieve. Bass are averaging 3 pounds. Lewiston will have water running through it in two weeks. Hold on until then. 530-623-4999, 623-4352.

DELTA

FRANK'S TRACT: High winds and a cold front has put the kibosh on what was a red hot bass bite. Striped bass are being caught on the Sacramento side while trolling plugs. 925-625-2441.

RIO VISTA: Schoolie striped bass are spreading all over the area. Nothing really big, but there are a few in the 10- to 12-pound range. Most of the bass are males. Bait is working well, but trollers pulling Yozuris are catching fish. 707-374-2372.

TRACY: Winds have kept most anglers off the water. A few catfish are being caught from shore. 209-835-3182.

SALTWATER

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE: The Golden Eye out of Berkeley recently ventured to the Alameda Rock Wall and the Berkeley Flats and returned with nine halibut to 12 pounds for five anglers. 510-237-3474, 654-6040.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY: Striped bass have moved into the area and the halibut bite has continued to be solid. Pier anglers are getting both at Oyster Point. Bass are in the 22- to 28-inch range. Boaters are venturing to the Alameda Rock Wall for halibut. 650-589-3474.

SAN PABLO BAY: Although winds foiled early week efforts, halibut fishing has turned on here. Two 40-pounders were caught at Paradise and the Berkeley Flats. Anglers are averaging better than a halibut per rod. Striped bass are beginning to trickle in. Best method has been fishing shrimp baits on the anchor. The Lord of the Sea spring derby began last weekend. It costs just $1 to enter. 415-456-0321.

SUISUN BAY: The Happy Hooker on Saturday worked Buoy 6 for four keeper sturgeon and four shakers as well as a handful of shaker bass. A good day in all, but Capt. Jim Smith is pulling up anchor and moving to Berkeley after this weekend to fish for halibut. 510-223-5388, 925-229-9420.
