Truth Be Told About 'dem Sinkin' Bones!!

Post by George Cawthorn »

Hello to all Prostaffers from most of the time sunny (but at the moment a little chilly) California!!!!

OK, here we go Prostaffers; probably some of you got into this post scratchin' your head saying "What in blazes is geobass talkin about now. First gizmos and now sinkin' bones. This guy really needs to go out and start fishing again."

Your are correct... I am on my way out today to buy my 2008 fishing license and will be back in action soon.

In the meantime, that aside, LOL.... QUESTION:

I was told a ways back by a friend and also had read some info on the web that sometimes large bass strike a fish near the surface leaving a big swirl on top. When this happens, the bass often regurgitate what they have swallowed to expel the bones of their prey and then circle around to eat chunks of fish floating in the water after 'dem sinkin' bones are gone down to the bottom.

They basically said to keep a light colored senko rigged up and handy and to pitch it out to the spot of the swirl when you see this happen. The returning bass may see the light colored senko as a chunk of floating meat and nail it.

Have any of you guys ever heard of this or had any success doing it?

I've tried it about a dozen times and only had a really good strike once doing it myself using a daquri holorgaphic Senko. Just curious to know if you guys have heard of it, tried it, or might have anyother good suggestions as to colors to try with this technique?

Good fishing to you guys, later........... geobass

Geobass, yes I have experienced this same action. The bass will spit out a mouthful of shad just to take another mouthful. Happens all the time-bass are soooo greedy! I've had better luck using a totally different color lure from what the basic forage is, if they eating shad, I'll throw a chartreuse bait at them. Something different, throwing a siminlar color really reduces the odds of the fish picking your one bait out of thousands of opportunities. Good luck, Johnnie

Carl I've never seen a lunker chuck the bones literally but I have been told that it happens that way.

The water is so clear where I fish I do see bass in the water all the time and often from as much as 40 feet.

It did work out pretty good once and I nailed a nice ten pounder doing it........ but only once have I been bit like that after dropping one in after a big swirl.

As a result I do usually have a clear of light colored Senko ready to fly should the opportunity present itself to me again.

Johnnie.. thanks for the tips on the different colors.

Good fishing to you, later......... geobass
