Ever been duped into that catch- all lure?

After I read the "Do handheld fishing gizmos work?" post, I agreed with all. Now lets be honest what catch all baits out there were you roped into? You know the ones: either they never caught anything, were used maybe for 10 minutes, or your still scratching your head trying to determine why you wasted the money.

Here are mine:
The flying lure
The helicopter lure (Son its a 5,6,or 7 pounder)
Dances eel
Do-nothing worms
The Vampire spinner-bait

The Dancin Eel...is still marketed today in fact...But ya I bought one when they first came out in the shad color....but it took me 5 years to catch a fish on it...but finally did at the Castaic Lagoon...couldnt get bit all day on my usual rigs...so I figured what do I have to lose...and wouldnt you know it...caught and released 6 bass on it that day...

I have used all these lures, but never bought any. I would never purchase any, but they sure look good on TV. Johnnie

I fell for the flying lure and I ordered a set before the TV infomercial was over. The interesting part was that it worked great for me. I caught a 3 lb bass on the very first cast. I can honestly say that the flying lure has a time and a place and can be very productive under the right conditions.

My cousin fell for the Banjo Minnow... and as I mentioned in another post, the Banjo frog really kicked ace.

I didn't like the Flying Lure here in Iowa where the water is usually dingy to dirty. I felt it would do well in clear water. The Banjo caught a few fish but not much different than most other-snake/worms. Johnnie

Well the lure I'm about to knock may be the best think since sliced bread to some.

Looked really good to me in the package and the description on the outside of the bag basically said that this lure will catch all kinds of bass just about anywhere.

The pretty little thing I fell sucker to was the Akie twin tail skirted grub in greenpumkin red flake.

Looked like it would have fantastic action too with all those little legs stickin' out the side.

Fished it hard at least a dozen times now in spots where the Fat Ika and Kreature baits get hit all the time. I've even had others recommend that I try them out!!!!

Never been able to catch a dang thing with them myself. Not even a nibble. As far as I'm concerned it has definitely earned a permanant spot at the bottom of my tackle bag.

Actually, next time my wife asks me if I have anything I want to donate to the Salvation Army I may toss what's left of 'em in the bag.

(OK I'm getting ready to duck now from an anticipated barage of raves for that lure from the guys who live in Arkansas!!)

Geo bass: the critical key to using what I'll refer to as "twin tail skirted grubs" is cover type. My preferences are Chompers spider grubs and Yamamoto or Kinami DT grubs. These lures are absolutely suited for sparse cover, and at their best in a rocky/sandy bottoms. Another key is the jig head, it must be a type that stands the bait up-right. I have caught many bass hoping this bait along a rocky/sandy bottom. While trying other types of cover (struck out).

An additional use is: Texas rigging the lure without any weight used, this is good for dock skipping and every now and then in open weed pockets. Do give up on these types of baits just use them in specific situations.
