Well after a zero last week on the Upper Castaic at the west ramp area I decided to give my old favorite "Lady Lagoon" another shot.
Got up to the lake at around 7:00 AM. Air temp was 68, water was 70, skies were clear, very slight breeze from the NW, it was sunny and the barometer had been holding pretty steady around 29.5 for the last couple of days.
Was fishing off the riprap at the south end of the lake.
Spent a lot of time with the large swimmers which I was fishing on my freshly spooled 7.5' baitcaster set up with 10 lb. Daiwa DEF flouro. No bites on the big stuff.
Also was chucking that big Ish Tube bed buster for a while with no results. Thing looks real good in the water though, a lot of smaller fish following it but no bites.
Cycled down through my usual arsenal, jigs, Senkos, Ika, Robos and finally got down to the bottom of the stairs and got bit on a light DS setup. 5 lb. flouro with a 3" Zoom tiny fluke watermellon.
Did see an increase action of small baitfish near the riprap. Saw several schools of yearling baby bass go by.
Did note white bleach rings on the rocks which is a sign that the Lagoon had been bluestoned. Probaby to clear up the water and knock down the weed growth around the swim beaches and launch ramp prior to Memorial Day.
That plus the clear skies and sudden warming of the water may have put the lid on the bite today???
Was only able to manage one on the DS.
But heck it felt a lot better than getting zeroed last week, I'll take it.
Packed it in around noon. Man was it hot for this time of year!!!
Air temp was up to 85 in the shade, 100 plus in the sun, water was up to 72.
Good fishing to you guys, later............ geobass

That geo, those pics of the schooles is making me very excited
what does bluestone mean?
Castaic Lagoon, CA, Sat 5.17: Hot and Slow
swimbait101, bluestone is a term used in reference to the chemical treatment of a reservoir or lake with chemicals to knock down weed growth and algae.
My understanding is that copper sulfate it the usual treatment and it come in the form of blue rocks which are thrown into the lake and sink to the bottom.
The copper suulfate disolves into the water with great enough concentration in the desired areas to kill grass, weeds and clear up the water. Usually this only irritates the fish and puts them into a funk for a couple of weeks.
Sometimes when over done it can kill off fish.
One sign that it has been done is a bleached white ring around the shoreline of a lake and is particulary noticeble on beachy aread or rocky spots like a riprap.
Good fishing to ya, later............. geobass
