Weather is changing and Fall is here! Got up early this morning and was on the Castaic Lake by 7:15AM.
Swim beach closed down the day after Labor Day and this is where I was headed.
I took up Float Tube fishing a couple years ago after selling my boat. My Cat 4 has been great. Below is all my equipment that I usually take out with me. Fish Detector, 4 fishing pole and lots of tackle in the arm pouches.
The water temp. is now around 74 degrees in the AM and gets up to 78-80 degrees by early afternoon. Soon the bass will start coming in to feed near shore to fatten up for the Winter. Early in the Morning there are a few friends out early with me.
Ducks were there to catch a morning breakfast
A couple of Crane's can always be found fishing for breakfast as well. The shot of two Cranes look like ostriches to me.
Here's my first Bass of the day - about 3lbs caught on Needlefish crankbait.

As the day wore on I changed to bomber style medium depth lures and caught another nice Bass.

Guessing another 3 lbs.
Nature called and I had to get out to the men's room and another friend of Castaic Lake was sunning on the sidewalk.
Few more fish were caught in the 1-2lb range and it was time to leave. I took one last shot from the other side of the lake where a Crane was calling it a day as well.
Have a great time fishing and remember to catch & release.

Very good report Ron. It was a pleasure to meet you at the lake the other day.
Great photos and nice bass. Ahh.... yeah ya gotta watch out for those little rattlesnake devils.
I've been out at the Lagoon today myself but haven't made a report about it yet. I will later..... I've been kind of distracted from fishing with my son in football and I had to go to jury duty this week which burned up most of my time.
Thanks for the info on the water temps and lure. I'll see ya around the lake again one of these days I'm sure.
Good fishing to ya, later............... geobass

Hi Swimbait 101,
You are correct in that the first bass had a 50cent size red welt on it's side. I looked at this closely and really can't say if it formed from inside the fish outward or something on the outside working it's way into the fish. First time I've seen this on fish from the lagoon.
