Thats one of my favorite top water lures! the way that I have found to be most productive is to twitch it about 3 or 4 times and pause and then repeat. Another way that I have tried is just to slowly retrieve it back in and let the prop do its job! hope this helps

Cole, Torpedo baits can be fished in several ways by using different cadences, speeds and pauses. My favorite technique is to cast out and let all the splash rings disappear. Next, I just barely twitch the bait, many times bass will come to where the bait splashes down and simply watch it from below. That first tiny quiver of the bait will often provoke a strike. If nothing happens I then pull the bait with my rod several feet and pause, twitch again. If still no action I'll then start jerking the bait rather hard, trying to make as much noise and surface disturbance as possible, the rest of the way to the boat or bank. This technique works well in shallow water and will draw fish up from deeper water. Good luck with your new bait, it' a good one. Johnnie Crain, Iowa Pro Staff.

that seems kinda like the way you work lots of other baits like that. I have a STORM TOPWATER CHUG BUG which is similar in the way that you twitch it and try to make alot of noise and splash water with the cup on the top of it. Ill keep your tips in mind next time i use the heddon torpedo. Thanks

Cole,
The only retrieve I really use with a torpedo is a sweep technique.Take up all slack but don't move the bait, then with the rod tip slowly sweep the bait about 2-3 feet, let sit for only a few secs, then sweep again.Hits usually happen just as you begin to sweep after a pause,be ready.Works well in a slight chop and when small bait and bass are present.Don't hesitate to play with the props(bend'em) if you don't like the action you're getting,Good Luck...>...HS
