rain fishing

Cole, I love fishing in the rain. Most usually I will go with a dark pattern spinnerbait, a shallow crankbait or topwater lure. Under low light conditions, bass may get very active and frequent the shallow water. Faster moving baits fished on or near the surface will catch a quick limit most times. If I come across a ditch running water into the lake I may use a large plastic worm in the runoff area. If the runoff is stained then its back to the soinnerbait. Summer rains make for some great fishing days, low light penetration oxygenated water and maybe cooler water temps can turn bass on. Under most conditions the fish may be located in fairly open water, they don't need to hide to ambush bait fish and crawfish, they may swim just under the surface a few feet away from good cover. Good luck, buddy. Johnnie

Cole, I agree with Johnnie. Some of my best tournaments have been in the rain. As long as you can stand the rain it really turns the fish on.

I will go to a shallow running small crankbait 1 foot or less and run that baby just under the water with a fast return. Try to stay with a shad color bait, unless water is really muddy, then color does not matter it is the vibration of the bait in the water that triggers the strike..

Give it a try sometime, it has really paid off for me!! Good Fishing

Cole,

Don and Johnnie gave excellent answers. I do agree that the rain turns on the bass. I will stick with the horizontal lures. I will usually throw a buzz bait, rattle trap, or am RT Slug (white color). I will start shallow until I find a pattern. If the horizontal approach dont work, then I will use a worm, tube, or a jig-n-pig...........
