Bass on the bed
I'm going to assume you are going after largemouth, since you are from Alabama? Catching bass pre-spawn will usually give you the best chance for a true giant, because they are heaviest right before they begin to spawn (and when on the beds before dropping their eggs).
Are you fishing from shore or from a boat?
Shoreline approaches need to be a little different because you may have limited access to staging areas (areas where bass will hold up and feed prior to entering the spawning areas.
It's also helpful to know what type of lake you plan to go hog hunting on, different bodies of water offer different options for bass when it comes to everything (including spawning).
If you can share some more info, we'll do our best to get you pointed in the right direction.
