Smallmouth Bass?
Cole,
I have never heard of smallmouth bass living in Florida waters. There are 2 ways to tell if it was a smallmouth bass--- 1) the mouth would not extend past its eye and 2) the tail tend to be more fork like in appearence than the largemouth. Next time you come across one, take a picture and send it to me.

Smallmouth Bass?
Cole, it is possible that your friend found a dead spotted Kentucky bass or a Swannee Shoal bass. Either of the fish when bleached from death could resemble a smallmouth simply because they have smaller mouths than largemouth and are often long and thin like a smallie. Of course, Rolemd Martin may have had some imported so he could win a tournament . Maybe you' catch one and claim the state record. Lottsa Luck, Johnnie
