Chart is a good color alone, but I personally like to use it mixed with white. This applies to both crank-baits and spinner-baits. I am a firm believer in "Darker colors on top", so most of my spinner-bait skirts are chartreuse top with white bottom and crank-baits are chart back with white belly.

As for the murky water, how murky are we talking? Like Coffee/Pee Soup? What color is the water?

Brendan is right, chartreuse is a great color in of itself, but I too prefer to tone it down a little. I use Chartreuse/white/blue skirts on spinnerbaits. A lot of my crankbaits are fire tiger which contains chartreuse. I also like salt craws that are black or brown with chartreuse claws. As for water color, the dirtier the water, the more chartreuse I want to show, in dirty water I may use chartreuse bladed spinnerbaits with a mixed color skirt. In clear water, less is best. I really don't like worms with chartreuse tails, the panfish tend to attackl these and pull them down on the hook too often. Basic answer-the dirtier the water, the more chartreuse. Chart. is a great color I would have to agree with the rest of the staff. The more murky the water the more chart. you want on you bait. In clearer water the less you want. One thing I like about the Zoom lizards (watermelon/chart. tail) is that the tail section is not a bright chart. color so it preforms just as well in clear water. Hand dipping you plastics is one way to get just the right look you want. I baught a set of marker pens (dye Pens) that came with chart., Red, Blue, and Orange. Now I can custom color any bait any color. Oh yes they are made by ****e-it and they are loaded with Garlic sent. Great Product. http://www.****e-itbaits.com/

All of the Pro Staffers gave excellent answers. I will tend to burn an all chrt. spinner bait for smallies in clear water. Most of the time, I will have a combo of white/chrt. on my spinner and buzz baits. If I am fishing stained to muddy water, I will dye some part of my plastic bait in chrt.

I saw that you posted a "murky water" question on the other board, but we did start discussing it here, so here is what like to do when the water is coffee.

In coffee color water, I have had good results using solid black and also blood red. Nothing contrasts any color more than black, so it is going to stand out more than any other color. Take a black worm and hold it against any color you like and it shows up, even brown...

Brendan is right on as always. Black is the most visable color in murky water, I'm forced to use black an awful lot fishing the ole Miss. river. I like black jigs, black worms and even spinnerbaits, black skirt, orange blade. Okay, go ahead and add some chartreuse to your black jig skirt. LOL, Johnnie
