price for boat

Post by fish45 »

Hey guys,
I am thinking about buying a boat, its a 97 203 champion with a 200 hp 98 merc EFI. It has a hot foot, dual console and is pretty much tournament ready. He is asking $16 000. Is this a good price or do you think I would be able to get it for less.

Thanks

Fish 45,
I think $16,000 is a little steep for a 97/98 model. This model is nearly seven years old now. $13,000 would be a more reasonable price and then everything should be in good to prime shape. I think you can beat that price. Champions are nice boats, but the resale isn't as high as a Ranger and you can by a similar Ranger for $16,000. Good luck making your decision. Johnnie

If you want to get some perspective, there are two things I would recommend.

#1 Check www.anglerschoicemarine.com and look at their prices for comparable used boats.

#2 Call a boat dealer in your area and tell them you are considering buying a new boat and would like to trade in your "97 203 Champion". Find out what they would give you and ask them what the book value of the boat is.

I agree with Johnnie, $16,000 is a bit too steep for a 1997. Unless it is a 21' with a 225 and "ALL THE EXTRAS!"

If I'm not mistaken, Champoin has changed hands since this model was new. ( very recently changed hands ) I would check out the boat and MOTOR, and be sure parts and service are still readily available before paying that much for a boat.
Honestly, I would shop around, $16,000 is too much for a boat that old, with no warrenty. Look for certificate boats ( boats anglers have won through tournaments ) normaly thse go fairly fast, but at great prices. I sold a 18 1/2' ZX Skeeter / 150 Yamaha 150 V Max, certificate boat that I won last year for $18,500. And it was loaded, GPS, top of the line Motorguide and all.

Like I said, shop around.

Anyone interested in a Skeeter ZX 18 Alum. / Yamaha 150 Jetdrive combo? I'm selling mine.
