Smelly Jelly

Does anyone know where i can purchase Smelly Jelly besides cabelas or bass pro?

Hi Pete!! Why Smelly jelly? I use the baits like any thing from Berkley with the power bait atractants or any thing with major amounts of salt inpregnated the "senko" has so much salt in it it falls apart, I also recommend the scent called "Real Craw". I know the answer as to why you want "Smelly Jelly" you have had success and you have confidence in it!!! I will try to help you put scent in-perspective, scent is good becuase it masks anything human or fowl smelling (not chicken) and it will give you confidence. I always wash my hands with "Berkley power bait Bass formula" befoer I even tie a bait on!! and I always have my jig n pig's soaking in "Real Craw". Does this make a differance to the Bass ? I do not know if he will come and get a bait because of smell but I know he will hold on to it longer and that gives me more opportunities to hook more Bass. For many years Lure companies will say that a bait will attract fish because of noise or smell. In reality the only thing we should be concerned with is that a bait/lure offers very few negative cue's. In other words I don't even think about calling a bass to a bait, I just want the Bass to not run away when I present a Bass the bait and if he holds on a little better or longer all the better. But as Dave Hawk has said in his book "100 years on Bass" the most important thing in Bass fishing is Confidence, without it we will never be successful. would a scent produce more fish in Crappie fishing?

Pete, it can not hurt but smell is not my number one concern. Location plus Presentation equal success, but we also must work at eliminating all distractions (dock talk,poor attitude, being uncomfortable) Confidence and experience will out produce any bait or technique. I'm not sure where to get Smelly Jelly, but have you tried any of the Kodiak Pastes? These are available in an injector, which is great to use when fishing with tubes. I use the crayfish paste with the 3 to 4 inch tubes when crawling them along the bottom, and the minnow or shad pastes when fishing with a jig head in areas with bait fish. Just remember not to fill the tube. This paste is made out of the real thing, and lasts a long time. There is also a garlic version for those who like making their lures smell like a pizza parlor.

Ever tried making your own? Thats what I do. I use equal parts petroluem jelly, kosher salt, and Craw oil - most of the major brands are fine. If you can find it, add a small amount of food-grade gold dust. It is available at gourmet food shops. It falls off gently as the jelly disentegrates, and looks like scales falling from an injured minnow.
