Fall fishing
Brendan,
Thanks, good info. I despise clear water but have to fish it often and soft jerk baits do work well. Beginning to fish jerk baits on a drop shot rig, adding very little action to the bait, seems to work in cold water. Don't fish them as much as I should. Johnnie

Johnnie,
Those "do nothing" baits have put some nice checks in my bank account...

Brendan, do nothing baits wouldn't appear to have much value here on the Mississippi river, but some anglers are actually using them as dip baits. They pull up to a tree or brush pile and with flippin sticks simply dip a small creature bait straight into any opening, it works. Flawless presentation, quiet and requires little skill, except for maybe hauling a bass out of the thick stuff.

Johnnie,
Have you ever thrown weighless plastics into eddy pools? These new heavy salted baits like the Senko and Ika can also produce very well when thrown up current and allowed to freely float back to the boat. I have used this tactic on the Hudson and Connecticut river around culverts and back water inlet/outlets and done very well...

Brendan, yes I've tried it but not often enough. In current I always do well with crankbaits so leave the plastics for backwaters. In summer though, I should use the Senko type baits more, thanks for the reminder, now if I just don't forget in the next 8 long months. Johnnie

Sorry Brendan, winter is a reality much as breaking off the fish of a lifetime, don't look forward to either but both will occur. Wouldn't it be great to live in a one season climate where it's spring everyday? Dreams are made of such. Hope the Bassin' USA tournament isn't too big a headache for you. It's a great concept.

LOL... I'm up to my neck with this thing. Plus all the work that is getting poured into the redesign of the website. I'll manage, thanks for the concern though.
