When is the best time to target topwater bass?

A very good question. I will usually start fishing top water baits when the water temp reaches 60 degrees. This is my general rule that I follow. I have caught bass on to water in the late fall when the water temp was 55 degrees. One import rule to follow while trying to catch bass is that there are no set rules. You have to whatever it takes to catch bass. Keep an open mind when you are trying to fish for bass.
If it is 55 degrees in the spring and it is a very warm day, you may be able to catch bass on top water. Be versitle.........

Justin, I agree with Mark, there really isn't any set time period to begin or end topwater fishing. Usually though, about 50 degrees is the top and bottom scale. Keep in mind, the cooler the water, the slower the retrieve should be, as the water temps warm speed up a little. In cool water, stop and go baits are better than say a buzz bait. Poppers, prop baits and chuggers work best in cool water. Zara spooks and buzzers come into their own when the water is about 60 degrees or more. Try varying speeds always and different sizes, smaller for cold water, larger for warm water. Good luck and thanks for asking Bassin" USA
