cold water in the 40
Ned,
Not knowing where you are fishing it's difficult to give advice, but I've never let that stop me.
First, when did you catch fish there? Was it in cold water, cool ware or warm water. Bass tend to move to deep water in winter. They may still be very near where you caught them, just in a lot deper water. In forty degree water you must slow all your baits way down, slow rolling spoinnerbaits, a jig and pig poked along, soft plastics swam slowly or dragged across the bottom may work. Like I said, most likely the fish are still in their winter habitat. If you could offer more info such as what time of year you caught fish, what type of water depth and cover is available, and whether water color or depth has changed much since your success has dropped off would help. Keep this in mind for additional posts as well, it really helps us get on the right track. Good luck, and welcome to the site. Johnnie

cold water in the 40
I'am 17 years old and have been fishing for a while and have alot of experiance bass fishing. I agree with that comment, Bass do slow down during cold weather, but that does not mean fish will not bite. You have got to have lots of patients and a slow retrieve. Bass seem to get realy lazy and does not want to move as much, so you have got to give them something worth moveing for. I would use both small and large plastics, see what one works the best, and dont be afraid to use a slow retrieve spinner bait. Alot of times the bait to go with is a small crawdad or lizard, depending on what kind of body of water, and what the main food source's are. I now what your saying when you say, it's hard to catch those bass during cold weather months, i live in nebraska and the weather here is crazy. I hope it helped and good luck fishing.
