I have a fishing tourney coming up with my bass club in April and i was just trying to get ready for the up coming season. I have heard when fishing in a tourney that it's good to use at least 4 to 5 rods and use them for diff purposes. Maybe one for fliping a jig or one for casting, but im kinda of confused about what one of my rods, I should use for what condition.
My question is how am I supposed to now what one of my rods I should use for eather fliping or what one for casting. And what kinds of condition i should fish them. ?
Thanks alot for any info and good luck on friday who ever went.!! its supposed to be a nice day.....
good luck on the water...

Luke, I went to Manawa, real windy and the water was still cold (45 degrees was the warmest I could find), no fish! But the up side is that it was relatively warm outside. The big question to start with is what rods do you have? What are the lengths and actions?

I have one rod that is a 6' Abu Garcia, with a medium action rod that has a baitcaster reel. I have a 6'6 Quantum that is medium action rod that has a baitcaster reel. And i have a 6'0 Rapala medium action rod that has a open face reel on it.
I now i dont have that many rod's, but these fit me and are really comfertable. And if you could also tell me what line to put on these rods, I would be really thankful.
Thank you very much and good luck on the water... (cought two today...3/19/04) nice day but really --^--windy--^--.

Luke,
I suggest you use your longest/strongest rod for flippin' and pitchin', in your case the 6' 6" model. Next, I would tie a medium diving crankbait (6') to (10') on the abu-6' and spinnerbait on the other rod.
For line, I'd go with 14# to 17# on the flippin reel, 12# on the crank and spinnerbait. Stren-Berkley or Maxima are good lines.
P.S. for pitchin' flippin' it's hard to beat the standard 1/4 to 1/2 ounce black and blue jig with a #11 or #1 Uncle Josh pork frog. I love pork in the spring then will switch to plastic later.
Use the spinnerbait and crankbait as search tools, fish them enough and you'll find fish. Then tyry the jig where you caught fish and try to up-grade in size. Good luck,. Johnnie.
I didn't recommend braided lines because they can cause problems unless you're used to them.
