Heavy Boat Traffic

Post by johnnie crain outdoors »

WE have a fairly large lake here that is over-run with water skiers, PWC's and some big wake maker boats. Any time the sun is shining thie lake gets very tough, the shorelines have constant waves from the big boats, the coves are full of PWC, making noise and waves. There just doesn't seem to be a way to avoid the congestion. Any ideas, anyone else have these problems? Johnnie

Johnnie,

That reminds me of Shelbyville. That lake is rough all summer long. The thing I have noticed when fishing that lake is that the fish don't seem to mind. I guess they kind of used to all the noise.

I have fished a lot of tourneys there and at a few of them I fished in the "party" coves. There had to be over 100 boats and Jet skies. I just tried to ignor all of the music and screaming girls. For the most part I just fished it like any other lake.

Are you talking about MacBride?

JT, it's Coralville-the dead sea- but I still like to fish it. I never heard any screaming girls at Shelbyville, at least nothing I can repeat here. LOL

that really ***** Johnnnie,

Same thing happens to me on Lake Tibet Butler here in Florida...every Sunday afternoon, I go fishing and there's boats zooming 10 feet next to me.

I always yell "HEY!!!"

WOrks sometimes, I was thinking of getting a speakerphone hehe

My home lake is overrun with skiers and PWC's
When this happens I just run as far up in the creeks as I can. We also have alot of canals on the lake and they are no wake zones that I hide in and flip docks. I also try to fish around some of the marinas because of the no wake zones there too.

If you can stand to fight the waves you can catch bass really good were the waves break on the rocks. It seems to gather the bait fish and we all know what that attracts.

Good luck and I feel your pain.

Thanks for the replies. I guess we all have our demons to deal with. I've never understood how anyone could take a perfectly good boat onto the water and NOT fish. That's just not natural. Johnnie
