Buzzbaits

Post by jeremy_221 »

I know this is a simple way of fishing, but I just dont have any luck on buzzbaits. I can catch them on any other topwater bait, just not buzzbaits. Anyone have any advice for me? How do I catch fish on this bait?

There simply isn't any wrong way to fish a buzzbait, so location must be the problem. Is your water very clear. I don't like buzzers in clear calm water. Fish the bait as slowly as possible, just enoughg to keep it oin the surface, then try speeding up and slowing down all in one retrieve. Try to find heavy underwater cover, run the buzzer over trees, brushpiles weeds etc. Mostly buzzers perform better in stained or choppy water that is shallow. If your water is clear, try to get a clear bladed-plastic buzzbait with a see-through skirt, pearlesant. Try downsizing to the 1/4 to 1/8 size buzzbaits. Don't give up, they DO catch fish. Johnnie

Jonnie is right as always. One thing I have found about buzz baits is that early in the morning right before the sun rises is fish a black buzz just fast enough to keep it on top. Fish it over points and like Jonnie said any kind of wood or weed in the water. As the sun rises switch to your clear or white, white/chart. colors to keep them biting for a bit. Also look at throwing them on cloudy days instead of bright sunny days.

Thanks for the help. I usually throw a white or chartreuse buzzbait and sometimes I throw one w/ both colors in the skirt. I fish where the bass hide in wire grass on the banks and it just dont work. I will try some of the things yall have said. Im sure it will work. I have heard of big bass being taken on buzzbaits, but I just have not gotten anything at all on them. Do I need to fish a trailor hook on it? Will a pork trailor help? Thanks for the advice and good luck on the water!
