Luke,

I have a Kevin Van Dam Signature series Quantum baitcaster, and it is an awesome reel. It throws very smoothly, has a great drag system, and it has good brakes on it so it doesnt backlash as much. I love this reel and it has performed very well for me. You can check it out at bassproshops.com. it is like 79.95 I think. It is a dependable reel as all Quantums are. Good luck in finding a reel!

I have to go with Garcia Amb. series. Tough and dependable as always. Zebco's are good too. Johnnie

Abu Garcia all the way. DO NOT buy any of the Bass Pro brand reels, such as the Johnny Morris or Rick Clunn signature series.
Good Luck!

Eww @ Quantum and BPS

First off, I've had quantems, and they've all fell apart under heavy pressure (being dropped, rain, sand, etc)

Bass Pro Shops are made in China or Japan, they're crap.

Abu Garcia Ambassador's are the top of the line for baitcasters...everything else bows down to Ambassador

I have to disagree Mike. I have two Quantums and they have been through some tough crap. They are still working like they did when I first took them out of the box. I know other people who have Quantums and theirs aren't falling apart. Quantums have shown to be the most dependable reels to me. I love these reels. It is all a matter of opinion and preference I guess.

Thanks alot for all your opinions. I just fell in love with a reel that i seen at scheels, and its a pflueger solara. Just got back from a good day of bass fishing. cought 9 and 4 over 3 1/2 pounds. The Pflueger was i believe a great choice. Thanks for the opinions and good luck on the water....

I am not a pro but I have had different outdoor hobbies in my time. I have always looked for the highest quality I could afford. Remember the afford part. If you go and compare the price range and find a good fit to your hand and think of the type of fishing you like,(power, worm, finess) you will make a good buy. Good luke on you purchase

I am glad you found you a reel Luke. That is all you have to do is find a reel that you just love from the start. That is how I did with my reels. If you trust them, they won't fail you. Good luck.
