Bass Boats

What kind of boat does everyone have? I have a 14'jon with a motorguide foot control trolling motor, and a flipping deck up front. It serves me well for small lakes. I would like to get a nice bass boat, but cant afford one. They are expensive!

I have a 12 foot lowe jon boat. It serves me really well for pond and small lake fishing. I am like you and I really want me a nice bass boat, like a ranger, but I can't afford something like that.

I actually run two boats, I own a Ranger and drive "promotionally" a G-3 2000. Both are great boats. Owned a Champion for 20 years and must say it went above and beyond the call of duty. Well made boats, all 3. I know the prices seem staggering, but most bass boats are a good investment. Everyone I have ever fished out of has been very good, the only one I dislike is the Stratos and that's only because it has no lip above the floor to keep equipment inside. Lost two rods, kicked them off the deck, other than that they seemed great. G-3 nad Bass Tracker both make affordable combo boats that serve the purpose. Good luck, Johnnie

I have a Lowe 170W Stinger with a 115 horse Johnson that I use 90% of the time.
Also have a 19' Skeeter with a 150 horse Yamaha on it I use for the bigger lakes.

I run a Triton TR20 with a Mercury Optimax strapped to the back. If I can get this thing to work right, I will try to post a picture.

I'm with you Scott, got a small 14 footer which does me fine. About half the guys in my club have big boats, but that doesn't make any difference on how well they fish. I'd take a new truck over a bass boat. Good luck, Carl.

Carl, your are right... "The boat does not make the fishermen".

I started out with a 12' aluminum and won many club tournament fishing out of it.

Today I have a few rigs for different situations.

My bass boat is 2004 Skeeter ZX225 Bass Master Classic Edition.

I also keep a 14' Discovery Aluminum for fishing small non-gas ponds with lauch ramps.

I also keep a Bass Hunter Plastic car topper for fishing carry in lakes.

The latest edition is a 16' Alumicraft which I baught to replace the 14' Discovery.

Add them all together and the don't mean a thing...

They are simply tools and they only need to meet the needs of the individual who uses them.

Means we are on the subject of boats,I'm having a real problem with mine.It runs great until you stop and fish.When you go to start it you have to pump the ball and sit there until the carbs fill-up with fuel.Its a 96 johnson.I've done everything I can think of.And my old dealer as well as the new one keep telling me its the way the carb motors run'when its hot out the motor just gets heat sink.Has anybody else have or had this problem.

Sorry Joe, never ran into that kind of problem. There should be a few guys on this site who know their wrenches. I got tired of old engines driving me nuts, so I bought a new Merc last year and have been very happy with it. Good luck, Carl

Joe,

I owned a '95 Johnson Venom 225hp. My engine was doing the same thing. I used to prime the engine by squezing the fuel bulb 3-4 times before starting the engine, but that didn't always work well. I got a tip from a guy who told me that when I would go to start the engine for the first time in the morning, "push the key in to activate the choke and keep it pressed until the engine starts and hold it their until the engine sounds like it is going to stall. As soon as this happens, release the choke and the engine will start to run smooth again." I tried it and it worked. I never had that problem again, as long as I would remember to do this the first time I started the engine for the day. I think he said that it helps to get any excess air out of the fuel line. Let me know if this works for you also...
