Bass Pro-Am
I made it into the Bassmaster Northern Open on the Hudson River as a Non-Boater! Any tips for being a good amature? Last thing I want to do is drive a pro nuts with my questions. Any clue as to when I'll find out who I'll be fishing with? Will I get to Pre-fish? What should I expect? Thanks!

Capnart,
First, welcome to Bassin' USA. When fishing from the rear of the boat, consider yourself as a guest. Always keep your gear in neat order and be ready to take off at any time, no pro likes to wait for someone to stow all their scattered out stuff when he or she is ready to move to a new spot. Watch what the pro is doing closely, if there's something you can't figure out, simply ask. Most pro's love questions when asked politely and at the right time. Try not to carry on extended conversations, most pros are concentrating while fishing and calculating their next move. Ask if he/she wants you to net their fish or how else you can be helpful. Don't make loong casts behind the boat where you are lkikely to snag, some pros won't go back for your lure, takes too much time. Never cast ahead of the pro unless he/she gives permission. On blast off and any other time, secure your hat, either stow it or pull it down tight, lost hats waste a lot of fishing time. Don't smoke in the boat unless the owner does. Try not to spill anything on the carpet. Keep your tackle selection and rods to a minimum. Help keep track of the time, sometimes we get locked into fishing and forget we're on the clock, done that myself. Just try to be a good companion and always ready for what's next. Good luck, Johnnie
