DVD on SONAR
Read a review of Mike DelVisco's DVD on Understanding Sonar in Bass TImes. There is a bare minimum amount of information on sonar, the rest is basic fishing tips that anyone with a rod should know. I feel I was ripped off. If there are any new comers to our sport and would like to have it, send me an email with your name and address and I will send it to you free of charge. Carl

Wow, That is surprising. I have met Mike and actually listened to him speak about sonar and I thought he did a great job.
He and I corresponded a couple of weeks ago and he is supposed to be sending me the DVD.
I will give my view points after I have a chance to see the DVD.

I could tell from the tape that the guy seemed like a good person,I just don't think the DVD lived up to it's review. I've gotten a wealth of info. from the pro's on this board, much more than this disc. I still have a bunch of questions which I could clutter up the board for a week, and perhaps, I was expecting too much in hoping how to interpret sonar displays. I would be very surprised if a pro posted a message indicating this DVD would be beneficial to advanced bass angling. Guess we'll see, Carl

i felt the same way, looked more like an adversitement for bottomline. I was disappointed. A good DVD is KVD's strategies for changing conditions.

Carl,
Sorry to hear that Mike's DVD did not meet your expectations. I have not seen Mike's DVD, but have also heard good things about his presentation skills. To be honest, I can count on one hand the number of videos that I have purchased that were worth the money... I think the reason for this is that as we increase our knowledge and become better anglers, we tend to lose our patients when we hear people discussing topics which we are already familiar with. When people set out to make videos, they want them to appeal to a wide market base, so they need to cover material from the basics through semi-advanced. I have not found a good "advanced" video yet. I have often thought of getting a team of top notch pros together and putting out a video series for advanced anglers only. No fluff, just serious high level discussion about topics that the advanced angler wants to know more about.
I'm sure when Mike created his DVD, he wanted to make sure that everyone could take something helpful away from it. If you learned just one new thing, then that's still something... the better you get, the less you are going to be able to learn. Perhaps you should be thinking about how advanced you are getting... you know, put a positive spin on it! (or you can tell me to shut up and leave you to your opinion) "Just kidding"
Regardless, I appreciate your honest feedback and have read you posts in the pasts, so I am sure that there is validity to the statements you made...

For those who are interested, Lowrance Electronics has a pretty in depth tutorial on general sonar understanding and interpretation along with some helpful tips. Here is the link: http://www.lowrance.com/Tutorials/Sonar ... ial_01.asp

Carl,
I have been hanging around the Internet for way too long!!! You can find a lot of this stuff by doing key word searches at www.google.com just keep playing around with the word combinations... i.e.
Depth Finder Tutorial
Fishing Electronics Tutorial
How to use fish finders
stuff like that...
You'll start to figure out which words are getting you closer to what you are looking for.
