Red Hooks

What do you all think about using red hooks? Do they help attract fish?
My experiences with red hooks have shown me that they work for me. The red color surely must seem to be a bllod trail or gills to the fish which makes them attack. On the other hand, they say that red turns to gray below about ten feet. Een that could be an advantage, gray would be a better hook color than silver or black-maybe? Just some food for thought while we here in the North suffer through yet another long-hard winter. Johnnie

I have tried them and yes I caught some fish using them and they were big fish. But only that one day. I have not caught any since then. Two 4lbers back to back stirred my interest and I went and baught some more hooks. But that one day seemed to be the only day it made a difference. Now if my tournaments could fall and a day that was exactly as that day then it might work again.


I too have wondered about the red looking grey when it gets down so deep and what difference the red would make so far my results have been both possitive and negative so I am still undesided on to go red or not.

I have been using red treble hooks on crankbaits for a couple years now, but I only replace the front hook. There have been several occasions that the fish was hooked on the red hook only, may just be a fluke but I think they make a difference. As far as red turning to gray below 10 ft. that would apply to the color of blood also, so the attacking fish may still see the hook as a blood trail. Food for thought.

Johnnie I've replaced several trebles with red, and use red hooks in most of my baits. I think every fish I've caught on cranks and top waters hit the red hook. Carl

I have to say that I have used red hooks ever since they came out and so far I am not disappointed at all. I love putting these hooks on all of my baits. Trebles seem to add more of an attractant to the bait and give it a more realistic look. My worm hooks of choice are always red gamakatsu hooks. They definitely made me a believer in them.

Thanks all, I guess I'm a believer in red hooks also and to a point, even red line. My Grandson uses a red leader for panfish and almost always outfishes me. I'm gonna make some bass see "RED" this spring. Johnnie

I use red hooks but I'm not convinced they actually attract. I can't say they are better or worse, I don't notice any difference.
