Super bass (tiger, and gorilla)

Post by jeremy_221 »

I was wondering if anyone else read the article in February's edition of bassmaster about the superbass that the scientists have genetically bred. I thought this was a very interesting article about a new type of fish that is more aggressive and also grows faster. I was wondering what everyone thinks about these fish. I can't wait to get some of these fish into some of the private ponds in my area. The only downside to these fish are that they bite easier and will be depleted alot easier with heavy fishing pressure. I was just wanting to get some other thoughts on these fish.

Jeremy, yes, I read the column with interest. I think for small ponds and impoundments it would be a lot of fun. Perhaps a great way to teach children how to bass fish. Don't think it would help us tournament anglers any due to the fact they bite so readily, but still, at times, it's just fun to catch fish. What attracts me to the fish is how rapidly they grow, that could be great for places like Iowa, whwere I live. Fish here take twelve years to reach five pounds, then they die of old age. Hopefully, this project will not fade away as fast as the "meanmouth bass" did. Good post, keep it up. Johnnie

yes johnnie that is exactly what i hope it will turn out to do. i really want a bass that grows like the florida strain but is a little less weary of baits the older they get. I live down in Georgia and there are alot of farm ponds in the area that I fish and I can just say that they are awesome to fish when the fish are biting. Me and my buddy trolled worms on a jig head one day on one of these ponds and pulled in 30 bass within 3 hours. two of them weighing 6 pounds! That was the most fun I have ever had fishing. Ever since that day I have been to that pond many times and everytime I go, there is at least one fish over 3 pounds caught. To this day I still can't believe how good the fishing is. Hope everyone is having some luck on the waters!

Jeremy, the only downside I can see is getting too used to catching easy fish then having to face the harsh reality of tournament fishing where we may get only 3-5 bites a day. Hard as it may seem to believe, but I actually think I would become bored with bass fishing were it not a challenge. Good post. JC

Thats very true Johnnie. My favorite part of bass fishing is going out and starting fresh. last time the fish bit a certain lure but this tim they won't even look at it. The challenge has to be what attracts me to this sport.

Hopefully, it's the challenge and not the prize that motivates us all. I even appreciate the days I don't catch fish if I only learn one thing new or different.
