Kayak Fishing in Bass Touyrnaments?

Post by wintojim »

Do any tournament rules typically permit two one-man kayaks to enter as a team, as long as they stay together (i.e. 100 feet apart)? I have found many advantages of fishing from a kayak but in a team tournament, my chances are automatically cut in half with just one fisherman. [email protected]

Jim, in every event I have fished, partners must stay together in the same boat. Some small club events may allow the use of a kayak, but no regional or larger tournament committees would even allow a kayak, both for safety reasons and you would have to have an operating live well.
Sounds like fun though. Good luck, Johnnie

Jim, any tournament I have ever fished also had a minimum of 25 hp and min length of craft. Not to mention livewells capable of holding 2 limits. Kinda leaves out a kayak.

probably not going to find any that will allow you to fish with your partner in two yaks, but you probably can find something that will allow you to fish alone. That is if you have a working livewell on the yak. I am about to fish my first mini boat tournament this weekend from my 2 man bass boat and will do so as a 1 man team. Yes it cuts your team in half, but i personally think the advantages are greater as a single person. I don't have to worry about boat position other than if i can cast or not. I can parallel banks without fear of my partner not having any place to cast. And the big one, if i win i get to keep all the money

OK, can't use two separate yaks & still be classified as one team, but the live well shouldn't be a problem with a tow-along donut net basket. Then again, there's still the problem in some tournaments of the minimum 25 hp requirement.

Jim, I don't think the fish basket will be allowed either, in most cases it must bne an aerated live well capable of holding two limits of fish. Good luck, Johnnie
