Lipless cranks can be a little difficult to mater. The key is presentation. I usually fish lipless bait fairly fast near cover. The noise and vibration will draw fish from cover. The Cordell Hot Spot has been improved to allow anglers to present the bait slower which has helped many anglers. Add a red treble hook to the belly hook, this will also help greatly, the fish hit the front hook and don't have any leverage to throw the bait. A fast-stop and gop technique is also good, bring the bait several feet very fast, kill the bait and let it fall, many strikes occur then, if not crank it fast again, over and over. Johnnie

Yo ph88, or what ever. I've read, and been told that lipless cranks and spinnerbaits are good search baits. NOT, on our lakes. I've caught exactly two fish on each one, both were reaction strikes. Hope some of the guys can shed more light on this subject, because I sure can't. I hope we're talking rattletraps, and not all those other lipless creatures. Good Luck. Carl

Down here in the south you can't beat a Rat-L-Trap (lipless). The techniques that have been the most effective are:
Burning--Reeling extremely fast.
Yo-Yo----let sink then lift or jerk then sink again.
Steady---Steady reel not too fast not too slow.
Jerking--Like fishing a Jerkbait.

Steady and Burning are the 2 most popular retrieves. They seem to work best over flats with grass or another type of cover!!!
I will tell you this, I have not been pleased with the latest paint jobs on the Rat-L-Traps I have bought lately. I can't even get a few hours worth of fishing before the paint starts chipping off.
