Topwater Frog Question

Post by jckpetty »

I've been having recent success with Trophy Scum Frogs. The question I had was, when I miss a strike with a frog, what is the best bait to follow up with or should I just keep pitching the frog?

Trophy, you don't say whether you are fishing weed or moss mats or open water. If in moss and weeds where a miss leaves a gaping hole in the vegetation, I'll cast the frog back past the hole and try again. If that fails, as it sometimes does, lol, I'll follow up with a unweighted floating worm (senko type) or a weighted texas rigged worm/tube/brush hog right to the opening. The floating type presents a new target at the same place on top as the frog. The texas rigged one drops to beneath the mat where ole linesides may be waiting for another easy meal.

Trophy, Herb hit the nail right on the head. The only thing I do different is use a floating tube, with just a hook instead of a worm. A little more compact and very castable. Johnnie
