tree stumps

Post by bassman20042 »

I fish an area that has alot of tree stumps.I fish these stumps often, but have had no luck,in catching fish.I have tried everything I could think of.I fish soft plastics alot, and would like to know, what to use,to catch fish around these stumps.I know the fish are there, but just can't get them to bite.Any recomendations,on lure selection,or presentations. You should consider "bumping the stump" with either a spinner bait or crank bait. Most crank bait manufacturers make a lure or two suitable for this. Some that come to mind are the brush tiger or brush baby. The tactic of BTS involves: casting past the stump then running the lure right into the stump. The noise caused by bumping the bait, gets the bass interested and results in a reaction strike. Another method of BTS involves running a spinnerbait into the stumps side which makes the bait veer off thus causing a reaction strike. Bass are opportunistic and a BTS approach displays a wounded bait fish profile that can be irresistible.

My preferences are jig/pig, and senkos, pitched all around the stump. We have a lake around here that is stump hell. We spend alot time fishing stumps along the shoreline next to deep water. good luck, carl

I used a shallow bomber "A",in a baby bass pattern, on a few tree stumps.I noticed a different feeling, when it bounced off the stump. The reaction strike was like a freight train hitting a wall.It was great. Then I used a senko, weightless, and just let it slowly fall along side the stump. When I saw my line move,I set the hook. All Bass was between 3-4 lbs.
