How to get sponserships

Post by RNE »

There’s nothing I can improve on what has been said by the others.

I can add this, as an employee of a company that receives about a 100 applications per year from guides and fishermen I see a lot of resume’s that don’t survive the first two paragraphs before they hit the round file. There's no such thing as a second first impression.

In my position I get to participate in the process somewhat, so I can speak with some authority. Also, once, long ago, when tournament fishing was a ‘niche sport’, I managed to snag a couple of decent sponsors myself.

Each point made above is valid, and vital if you want a company to deal with you.

As has been said, you’re past “fishing”, you have entered the realm of business. You'll spend a lot of long days and nights at boat and tackle shows. And smile at everyone, shake their hand and show them product. Even if you can't stand them. (I do it three times a year, trust me, it ain't easy sometimes.)

If you forget that very important detail, you’ll not last more than a year.

If that.

Good Luck.

How to get sponserships

Richard, Thanks yes I understand what you are talking about, I work about 4-7 sports shows every year, 11 hour days and 30 days away from your loved ones and alot of smiles!!!

Right now I'm trying to work a boat deal or a team deal, that is my first objective this year. Maybe it will happen and maybe not.. One thing I have found out is that everything takes money...

If you have the money to buy that new boat you can just get about anything you want, even if you can't sell anything.. I guess dealerships are just like that. There are alot of guy's that I know who have a State team sponsorships with a big boat MFG that can't sell or even fish, but they forked out 50K for that new boat and well you know the rest.

Well guy's I'm off to my first show this year, Thanks for everyones help..
