what to expect on opening day

bass fishing opens in a few weeks on long island. Will the bass be off the nest then, I`am new at this game and don`t have the slightest idea what to expect or what to do. Will they still be in shallow water ,and whats a good lure to start with. Thanks hope you mind all the questions ( have alot more to ask to )

Ebbtide, questions are why we are here-and to learn ourselves, of course. Doesn't matter if the bass are spawning or not, try shallow water. My suggestion, 3/8th ounce spinnerbait, silver blade(s), white or pearl skirt. Fish won't go deep up there for some time. Good luck, Johnnie
