ultra-lite worm fishing
Is 6lb test too lite for un-exposed hook worm fishing? sometimes I have penetration issues even when I tex-pose soft 4" worms, I think it has to do with line stretch with the longer casts. I use a med-action spinning outfit for most of my ultra-clear worming needs, I used to just whacky rig my worms because of their effectivness on pressured bass, but have recently started to switch to traditonally rigging my finesse worms for better casting accuracy and lengh, and the added weedlessness of course. This question also kind of goes back to the previous question I had about proper drag setting

In my opinion, 6# is too light. There will be just enough stretch from that limp line to allow the fish to pull free. I'd go alittle heavier- 10#. I'm not really a big fan of ultra lite fishing, lose too many fish, too many breakoffs. I realize, there are tiomes when ultral lite is the way to go, but if the waters that clear, I try to find dirtier water or use a topwater. Good luck, Johnnie

I have been using, with some success powerpro 10 lb test that has a 1 lb diamiter with a leader. I think when fishing down sized baits you need a good rod with a sturdy mid-section and a fast tip. Finding that rod has been very frustrating. I've bought three new rods this year and none of them meet my requirements. good luck, C

I use p-line cxx 10 pound test and hook up a strike king 3x worm on a shakey head.

Pourboy, A few years back my tournament partner and I experimented by using 6lb Yo Zuri Hybrid for two whole tournament seasons. I fished plastics, jigs, spinnerbaits, topwaters....etc. I didn't break off any fish, I took 4 fish between 5 and 6lbs and we waxed the competiton...it was silly.
The 6lb Hybrid line overtests at about 13lbs. It will pull the boat if you hang it up.

IF you don't want to change your line there are a couple things you can do to help with hook penatration.
Get some Gamakatsu light wire hooks in the size you want and then pinch the barbs down. Then resharpen your hook.
Look in Bass Pro Shop for an "E Z Lap" hook sharpener. I use mine always!
