Guys- I've said months ago that a Senko can't catch bass in my bathtub.
Also, most soft baits will catch fish if you slow down as Brendan said. And when you deadstick them, the odds for success go even higher.
With Gary's new Tournament Series where you don't have to join an organization (like FLW or BASS) but you must fish GYCB products, guess who's going to be the big winner? Why, nobody else but Gary Yamamoto.
As far as "leveling the playing field", the jury (the bass) is still out on that subject.
It remains to be seen if this will ever happen.

The Senko Lure ??????????????
"Guess whose partner was fishing a SENKO all day???
That's right, my partner
And he didn't bring a keeper in the boat all day... "
I was Brendan's partner at the tournament. Just to clarify...I put two keepers in the boat. I believe Brendan may have culled out my fish but I'm not sure.
:p

Yes... That is correct... I culled both of those fish out... Wasn't one other fish you caught 7 inches though? Rob, sorry for the mix up, I was too busy catching big fish to remember the little guys that you brought to the boat... and if they don't stay in the boat for the weigh-in, then did they really keep after all??? I didn't keep them, did you???
(For those of you who don't know Rob or I, we are just goofin' around... don't take this too seriously)

The Senko Lure ??????????????
brendan,
i don't know if you have seen them but the venom salty sling is almost identical to the 5" senko. the differnces are small the salty sling is a bit tougher and lasts a bit longer. in a tank unweighted they fall at the same rate. the senko flutters a tad more due to the softer plastic. at 17$ for 50 they are great for prefishing and the days when the bite is agressive. i could send you a few samples that i have extras of, i don't think you'll be disapointed.

Guys- We've had three separate threads about Senkos running consecutively on 3 different boards for the past week. I don't know about you, but the Moderator (that's me) believes we are becoming redundant.
I will try to put new posts on all three boards to help get us out of this traffic jam. Thanks a lot for all your contributions.
Keep them coming. JoeMo

Danbass, I'd politely say your post is a little off because actually, Senkos are EXPORTED to Japan, not made there. They are made in America proudly by American workers in the high desert canyons of sunny Page, Arizona!
Early Morning Run on Lake Powell, Page, AZ
Also, it stretches my neck to consider Senkos as hybrids of the jersey worm rig. Heck, I don't think so, or at least I never considered them so.
Brendan, the Senko baits are made the most productive way we know how, which is best for bass. A consequence of what we perceive bass want results in the softness. A ten pack of bait is designed to catch ten bass quickly, preferrably in ten good casts (wouldn't that be nice), depending on the angler's excellence of execution, which varies.
Bass get uncompromised quality bait to eat from us - if that is what bass anglers want, it is the ultimate honor to us and everyone here is grateful and feel pride in our work whenever someone choses Yamamoto baits. That's what makes it all worthwhile for us, the chance that Yamamoto baits we make will make a wonderful lasting memory of good fishing for our fellow bass anglers. In today's age, that may be hard to swallow, but it's true.
As far as being a wonder bait, as you say Brendan, the overwhelming sensation of the Senko can be a little sickening, but the truth is I have fished with every bass bait and every soft plastic that ever came along since before soft plastics even existed, and there's never been anything like the Senko in its fish-catching ability.
It is NOT just that guys could not fish previously-existing soft plastics weightless, wacky or slowly. Heck, I fished everything plastic that could swim, crawl or hop weightless, wacky or slowly - unfortunately, the Senko is better for me.
And congratulations on your tourney success with the jig-and-pig! What we call a fiberguard jig 'n pig is in a certain class of what I call "immortal" baits. Pitch or flip a jig-and-pig properly, and something about it gets bit by bass time and again. A tube bait is a good example here also. The Garland Gitzit was invented 20-30 years ago, and has been readily accepted by bass ever since. It faded in and out of the average anglers attention, but became mainstream about 3-4 years ago thanks to Denny Brauer popularizing it, and many manufacturers jumping on it. Like the jig-and-pig, a tube bait has such an amazing life-like illusion when used properly. Who knows why? Only the bass anf they're not talking! Does the Senko present this illusion? Does it truly imitate life in the hands of the master puppeteers who pull it's string? Or is it that the Senko just hasn't made enough negative imprints on the general population yet? We must wait and see, but I'm ready to bet it does deserve to be in the same class as jig-and-pigs and tube baits.
JoeMo, the Yamamoto Tour Tournament Series is hopefully a way that Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits can participate one-on-one with our patrons, and give something back to them. Hopefully every bass angler will feel like they are the big winners, not as you say, JoeMo, Gary Yamamoto winning. You are entitled to your opinion, but you do not know the motives for the tour. Also, why are you fishing in your bathroom? Yuck! Har! Har!
Best to You, BassWrecker, DanBass, MMT, Brendan, backlash, Rob and all my fellow bass anglers worldwide,
Regards,

The Senko Lure ??????????????
Russ,
Thanks for the feedback, and I hope you understand that no one is trying to bash Gary's products. We have all used them and they are exceptional baits.
After reading my post again, it does come across a bit harsh. I'm a pretty sarcastic guy and sometimes sarcasm does not come over well on paper. (or ePaper) I took the liberty of removing the post, because I see how it could be misconstrued.
Gary has taken soft plastics to a new level with the Senko and anyone who has used them knows this from the first cast. I’m sure this bait will endure the test of time and also become one of the greats.
When the Sluggo first hit the market, there was a similar craze. There wasn’t a soft plastic on the market that could out perform it either. To this day, it is still a deadly bait and it has become a permanent part of my arsenal.
As for the durability of the Senko… I understand what makes the baits fall apart so easily and that’s also what makes them so good.
From a consumer’s perspective, if Gary came out with a Senko that didn’t fall apart as quickly and was just as effective as the original Senko, wouldn’t you purchase the more durable of the two?
(We can dream, can’t we?)
Regardless, I still buy them 10 packages at a time...
I hope you haven't taken anyone's opinions or comments to heart...
