My first tourny! Any advice?

Fishing a small charity tourny this Saturday. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. For example, this tim eof year, with water temps from 74-78, where should I concentrate on fishing most and with what lures?

Skeeter need more info? Fishing a big lake? River? Type of shoreline-rocky-mud-any timber-stumps-feeder creeks-headwaters? Water color? All this is needed to offer some suggestions. Good luck, Johnnie (nice ride).

Jon, even though I live 10 minutes from Cherokee Lake, I have never fished it, other than for catfish years ago.
All I can tell you is it is over 28,000 acres, there are rocky bluffs and points as well as mud points. Probably not many stumps. http://www.tva.gov/sites/cherokee.htm

Skeeter, my advice would be go after the post spawn bass holding on the rock bluffs near feeder creeks. Use medium diving crankbaits parallel to the bluffs, and if fish are caught, go back over the area with an eight inch Carolins rigged worm a little deeper. Try all the points too, even mud points can be good. Mud points are often stirred up by boat traffic or wind and this creates stained water for bait fish and bass to hide in. Use a large spinnerbait for these fish, fish the outdide edge of the stained water where it mixes. Good luck, Johnnie

We were in the water at 6am this morning. My partner caught too small ones first thing and I had 4 bites but failed to hang them. Thats all the excitement we had all day.

We threw everything at them but the kitchen sink. Talked to a couple others afterwards and they said the bite was very slow for them also. All the sea-doos and the 91 degree temps didnt help any, but it was a good experience.

Guess I will try another one on Douglas Lake, I know those waters pretty good.

Sorry you didn't do well. There's always next time. Boat traffic can be frustrating for sure. We have a narrow lake here that fills up with large boats and it actually works to my advantage. I simply go to the very backs of creeks and fish. The bait fish move back there to avoid the boat wakes and so do the bass. Won some tournaments in places too small to even turn my boat around in.
