Baitcaster Line Prefrence

Post by SkiTzO »

I got a Diawa t-1100 or something and i tried 3 different lines. I cant seem to find a line that doesnt wanna tangle up or cast far. What are your reccomendations for line to use with a baitcaster. I fish mostly with synthetic worms and i cant get them to cast far without weight and i dont like to use weight.

Weightless worms, while I can, and do use baitcasters for that method, more often I use spinning gear, 'heavy' with 14-20 lb fireline or Stren Flourocarbon.

More a matter of practice than line selection, tossing lightweight, wind-catching baits of any type can be difficult with a baitcaster. Even the excellent modern reels.

Best line, for me is flouro, or very soft mono. I have used super-braids for the method, but have had problems with line control.

If there's any wind at all, spinning gear.

Richard.

The only worm I can cast without weight on a baitcaster is like a Senko or other internally weighted worm. I'm good with a baitcaster, but not that good. I use spinning gear for light weight baits. Berkley Vanish would be my choice or Berkley XL about 12# test. Good luck casting that thing. Johnnie

Thanks guys. I dedicated my baitcaster to my spinnerbaits only i guess. Had a good night with it and caught 4 bass. Thanks for the help. (Currently using Shakesphere's Cajunline) Thanks again!

So when you say spinning I assume you mean like a openface type reel. Correct? I have one of those on another rod that I also take with me. A Shakespere Alpha series or some stuff. Pretty dirty tho
Anyhow thanks again.

Just a thought but, you can pick up some very good spinng gear for just a little money. I fish in New mexico where the wind is certin to pick up durring the day. If I am fishing weightless plastics, it is truly the only way to go. I use a Abu Garcia Cardnail seris reel with a 6' medium light or 6'6" mediunm heavy rod depending on the cover I am fishing. I think both set ups together cost around $100. While I am true to my baitcasters, I have found the need for spinnging tackle in my rod box. Hope that helps. Good luck and good fishing!!!
