Chatterbaits

Is anyone having success with the new Chatterbait type lures? Good colors? Best techniques? Type cover? Will reply later with my test results on the Bayou Outdoors Lightning Blade.

I'm not but then again I've only used it twice this year. The first one I bought I slung off in my Third cast with it. (wife got a kick out of that!) But still have not caught a fish on it yet. But I keep trying it. lol.

Johnnie; I have good success with 3/8 oz. green pumpkin RAD chatterbaits, the only problem that I noticed was poor hook-up ratios. The bait does draw attention; I have had virtually every fish species follow the bait back to the boat. Recently I have also caught a few with a blue/black Gambler swim blade by pitching the bait close to vegetation. The initial observations I've made are: Chatter baits get the interest and Gambler gets the hook-up. Either way these baits seem to work best in open water over extensive weed flats, when you encounter emerged vegetation work it almost like a buzz bait close to the thick stuff. Additionally; The less action you impart the better off you are, the bait should be cast and reeled. You can dead-stick it to let it fall in deeper water, after you have reached the depth reel it straight back.

Guys, I have my best success swimming the bait about two inches below the surface. Haven't missed any strikes yet, when I see the actual fish or wake from a fish, I pause just slightly and the bass takes it in. I'm using a chartreuse/pepper color most times. Surprizingly, it doesn't work well in the Mississippi river where I really thought it would shine. Shallow warm water, maybe with all the wiggling motion the fish don't get a good read on where the bait is. I like it best in slightly stained to clear water. These baits have a place in my box, but not the top drawer. Anyone else?

Hey guys,I have one in the 3/8 oz size in a green pumpkin color.I thought that it would shine on the west coast.I have caught a few decent bass with them,but the hook up ratio was not good.I like the action,which draws attention to anything swimming,but wouldn't rely on them in a pressure type tournament.It does have a place in my box,but only for pleasure fishing.
