Kingfisher, I basiccaly use a 3/8th or 1/4 ounce spinnerbait and a 1/4 or 1/2 ounce jig depending on density of cover and depth. These weights seem to cover most situations. Good luck, Johnnie

I like 1/2 to 5/8 for my spinner and 3/8 to 5/8 on a jig. I have some of bothe lighter and heavier weights. Any mid-range is a good start. I have a buddy who when we go to a clear lake will work me over with a 3/4 spinner and a bigger blade close to the surface. It has happened for years and I have just learned to live with it.

RW, those big bladed spinners can be awesome. I use them a lot, right across the surface. Don't just "live with it", join it!! I call it the sling blade technique, sling out a big ole blade and hang on. Good luck always,. Johnnie

Johnnie, Boy have I tried! We have fished together at least a few times per year for years now. He is a great partner in the boat, if he catches fish he wants the entire boat to catch fish. He has told me speed ratio of the reel, size of blade and even let me use one out of his box. I just don't hold my mouth right or something. He will catch 20 while I get 5. I will get maybe a few more with a buzz or top water but he is top dog on that pond. This is where I became sure of the saying that confidence is the best lure in the box.

RW it's okay to get spanked once in awhile. Happens to us all. I'd say your partner has a good feel for the lay of the pond, the little nuances that can't be seen. He also obviously knows about speed and depth control. Just stay with him and keep trying, your day will come.

When I throw a spinnerbait its a 3/8 or 1/2. This year I threw the spinnerbait more than normal and it payed off with a few more fish in the boat. Guess next year I will have to throw in more!!
Thanks,
