Bassman, shakey jig is a really fun and easy way to fish for bass.. This takes a shakey jig head, which is a grub head with a lot longer shank for the hook and the ones I use have a screw type attachment built into the head of the jig. This screw looking dude is for attaching your worm to the head of the jig. With these I can screw the trick worm on the head with ease, it really helps the worm from sliding down or being pulled off by the fish. There are alot of types out there, but the best I have found are custom made with this screw type attachment. Another type that I have used are called critter bait jigs, www.critterbait.com. But just about any good tackle store will have them in stock, if not look on the internet @ www.strikebass.com under our web store, we sell the screw in type.

Now on to how to use them.

Anytime you get slow or very pressured type of fishing the shakey jig really pays off big time. Down here on Table Rock Lake in Southern Missouri we use these guys anytime the fish are located on the bottom in any water depth.

The worms we use are the Zoom trick worms or Zoom swamp crawlers in 6" to 8" versions, colors depends on the lake you are fishing, our colors are green pumpkin, watermelon green / red flakes or watermelon green / purple flakes.

You cast these guys out to shallow or deep water and let sink all of the way to the bottom, once there you really use it like a jig but once you drag or hop a few times you let it sit still, then you shake your rod tip. This makes the worm tail shake or move like the bait is digging in the bottom. Keep doing this type of movement until you return it back to the boat. The bite will come right after you shake it a few times or just as it hits the bottom.

Here are a few tricks that I have learned, first take your worm and dip the tail in another color like a chart or red only on the tip of the tail, this really gets them going. Also try to change the of sizes of the worm I will take my worm and bite the head or the first few inches off of the worm give it a smaller profile when it is tough.

Next when you do get a bite, make sure you reel down atleast 5 - 6 reels before you set the hook, this takes up any slack in the line and makes for a better hook set.

Use this type of bait anywhere you think fish may be present, we love to use these around trees and cedar trees and do the yo-yo type of presentation, moving the bait up and down the tree branches, it is snag proof most of the time if it is hooked right. We also use this to hop down big ledges from 5 feet to 100 feet or even bluff walls with ledges on them.

Give it a try sometime your fishing will pickup even more on the lakes where these have not been seen alot. Any questions please reply.. I wish there was a way to post pic's for you guys I could show you all of the types I have found. Well good fishing and I hope this helps some.

Just started using the shakey-head myself. Works good for me under docks, laydowns and such. Also, a bit of patience is seems to be necessary. I normally use a 4 0r 5 inch finesse worm.

Shakey Heads are good baits, I use them with a four inch ringworm or beaver tail worm. I want the maximum action from the jig and combo-with a minimum of actual forward movement. I try to keep the bait in one small strike zone for as long as possible. Especially under docks, on the edge of a ledge or along bridge pilings. Good posts guys, keep it up. Merry Christmas to all.
