polarized sunglasses

Well fellas I'm gonna break down this week and buy an expensive pair of polarized sunglasses. I would like to get everyones opinion on the brand of glasses they are using and some advice. I'm leaning towards Costa Del Mars just from what I've heard from people that own them. I was considering some solar bats, but I was turned off by some negative comments regarding the product. Any input would be helpful!!!

Robert, most glasses are good, but I have to have reader lenses to tie knots, read maps, etc, so I use Ono's Sunglasses with the readers built-in. They work very well and I can't even tell I've got them on most of the time. Check them out at www.onostradingcompany.com. They're worth a "look".

Carl, does a high dollar tow vehicle make a difference, do high dollar rods and reels make a difference, do top dollar bass boats make a difference-depthfinders? Lures?
To make a short story long, I don't know. I usually say not really, because I can't afford high $ anything, but I can't prove it. I'm sure folks with mucho $$$$$ will say yes they do. I simply try to buy the best I can afford and settle for that. If you have money, buy the high $ stuff, if not, don't sweat it. The fish aren't gonna know what you're wearing or using. Johnnie

Johnnie, I agree with you, as I usualy do. The last time I was at the eye docs, i forgot to ask. She said I had developing cataracks, which kind of threw me. Anyhow, I have asked several DO asst.s, and was told that the lenses are much better, but the polarization was about the same. (?) The confusion for me is I've had partners who saw a fish before I did, and even told me sizes of fish at hook set, and then breakoffs. Fish that I never saw. So the next time I see the M.D., I'll ask. Till then good fishing. Carl

Well I wont tell you what I payed for them but when Oakley came out with Polized sunglasses I got two pair of them. I used the strike King glasses at Walmart for a long time. I can tell a difference in the glasses and what I can and cant see with them. I like them well enough that I will be buying a new pair soon as I can come up with the extra money to do so.

Side note! The wife fishes with me alot and she would not know the difference if you spelled it out for her. I got her a nice pair of Costa's for Christmas (she didn't like the looks of the Oakley's! Looks whats that got to do with it?) She could not believe the difference it made in what she could see in the water! Now she spots fish more than I do.

So yes if you can afford them they are worth it. Do yourself a favor and go to one of these sunglasses places in your local mall, (yes I said Mall) and try on the different pairs of glasses that they have. Most of them carry polarized glasses from differnt companies. Find the one you like because not everyones eyes are the same. (what works for me may not work for you)

Try them I think you will be impressed.

Oh yes when you spend that kinda money for a pair, you don't loose them as often either!

Well guys this comes straight from the Doc. She said she didn't think there was any difference in polarization in sun glasses, regardless of the price. (?) Carl

Carl, the Doc's probably right. I think a lot of it concerns the style of the glasses, how they fit your face. Some allow more sunlight to sneak through around the edges, some are almost completely darkened. The tint of the glasses can make a difference also. I like Amber. Wrap around glasses are the best and they are comfortable as well. Good luck, Johnnie
