South Shore Bassnaster my local B.A.SS Federation Club held our first club tournament of the season at South Watuppa in Fall River, MA on Sunday April 27, 2003. Morning started out cold and windy, but the bite was on!! I fished the northern shoreline along the rocky banks with an ASSALT -5" Salt Stix wacky style and a 4" Salt Shaker worm on a drop shot rig, had three fish in the boat at 7:15 and my limit by 8:15. Anyone else using these new baits they are really great, loaded with salt!! The Salt Stix is like a senko, almost identical, definitly the best reproduction of the Senko, that I have used or seen so far. The salt shaker is a drop shot bait, which is also loaded with salt. I don't want to turn this into SPAM, so once I had my limit a went searching for bigger fish, using a Lucky craft CB 100 crankbait, throwing tight to shore and culled a few fish with it. water temp was in the mid to upper 40's. Seeemed that the bite turned off around 10:00, still managed to catch a few more, but wasn't able to cull any. All in all a good day for Watuppa, I took 1st Place with 9.89 lbs, second plave was around 9.5 lbs, anyone who knows this lake, would agree that 9-10 pound is pretty good for this lake. I have a few pics to send you as well, but they have not come in yet.
Also had a Mass State Team Tournament on April 19th, my partner and I came in 18th out of 40 teams, not very impressed but it was fun, we just could not get the bigger fih to bite. My partner caught the fisrt two fish on a shallow running crankbait, but then I caught the next six fish in a row with the 4" salt shaker worm in the green pumpkin with green flakes or watermelon/green flake rigged on a small jig head. Next tournament is a club tournament at Webster Lake-Webster, MA on May 17, the smallmouth should be on beds and the fishing will hoepfully be good!!
