"Great Pond"
Took a short trip to Great Pond in Southold, N.Y. last weekend. Normally a "great" little spot. However, Dave Delio and I spent about six hours slaping the water with tubes and senkos, but only had a keeper each to show for it. The action was on the slow side to say the least, and the water was still down about one foot. The good news is that the ramp is now in excellent condition, and the few parking spots outside of the launch area are clear.

Ed,
What were the conditions like (Weather, water temp, etc.)?
I'm wondering if you just caught them in a post spawn stage...

Brendan,
The air temp was in the 80's last Sunday, and the water temp was almost the same (between 77 and 80 degrees). You may be right though. We did notice a lot of beds! All were vacant of fish, but like I said the action was just too slow for the Great Pond I know.

Ed,
I know what you mean, but I wouldn't give up on that place (I know you would never)...
There's to many big bass in there. The weather down here has been all jacked up this year and I'll bet that has a lot to do with it also. When those fish get stubborn, they pack down in the thickest grass and don't move. I have had days out there like that too and by changing my normal approach was able to hook up with some of the bigger fish that I've caught there. Next time that happens, try punching a 7" worm Texas rigged with a 3/4 oz sinker through the thickest weeds you can find. The trolling motor will screw things up for you, so what I was doing was letting the wind push me along and pitching the worm ahead of the boat as the grass clumps approached... It's something else to give a try when things get tuff on that "Great" pond...
If the worm doesn't produce, you can try switching over to a 4"-5" tube rigged the same way...
Maybe I'll see you out there one of these days.
Take it easy,

I Fished Swan Pond on Saturday and saw a lot of new Beds. No fish on them but I have a feeling that some Bass might have Spawned on this full moon.
I haven't fished Great Pond in many years and I would like to try it with my little "one man" plastic boat. Can anyone give me directions on how to get to the ramp?
