Well folks a lesson was learned this weekend, I went up to the big pond Friday & Saturday. The weather was perfect, water temp. 63.2, & every thing like it should be. We fished the same areas I had been fishing but this times the fish taught us a lesson. Friday 10:00 am till dark thirty a dozen fish none over 12”, Saturday 7:00 am till 12:00 half a dozen fish with only one keeper. It just goes to show you that when you think you have them figured out you don’t. This just means just one thing! I owe them one!

Well the 2003 O.P.F.C. Annual Tournament is history! As usual Catt is still #1!

The sad part was most of the members could not attend due to Operation Iraqi Freedom. While on this subject the first night of the war one Air Force AWAC was flying an O.P.F.C. Flag with all our names on it and has received a certificate from the Air Force authenticating the event.
Back to fishing we spent 5 days at Playcation Marina on beautiful Toledo Bend Reservoir. The fish were in a typical past spawn pattern, we managed to catch between 110 & 125 bass. Most under the 14” size limit, with our top 5 weighing maybe 15 lbs., & the largest going 3 ½ lbs.
The most productive technique was a Texas Rigged Zoom Trick Worm (Watermelon/Neon) with a 1” paneling nail in the tail for weight. The second most productive technique was the Wacky Rig (Watermelon/Neon & Merthiolate), with spinner bait in last place.
The dates for next years event is not yet scheduled but we are planning a Fall tournament. I would like to thank Terry & Wanda for a wonderful time while a their marina, it is a first class place! Merci Beau Coup!

Traditionally speaking August nights on Toledo Bend are balmy to hot with southerly winds 5 to 8 mph, clear skies, & temperatures in the upper 80s at night. This past week tempetures in the Dallas / Fort Worth area averaged 105 degrees with heat the index reaching 115. But this weekend was completely different with a northern front moving in on Friday, winds shifted north to northeast 15 to 20 with gust to 30.

Pat Miller and I arrived at the Sportsman’s Marina & Café, checked into our room, then made our way to the café for an early supper. As normal some guys sitting across from us were discussing different high tech tactics from boats, tackle, and the like. One leaned our way asking if we were going to night fish, we shook our head yes and continued to eat. I over heard words of needing more entries fees and us being easy marks, so the same guy asks if we would like to fish their club tournament. After finishing supper and ordering to go bags for later, we joined the others at their table. When they were through trying to pick our brains, we decided to meet a Six-Mile boat ramp. When we arrived at exactly 7:00, there were some very strange looks and mumbling under their breath. It seems I forgot to mention my 15’ modified “V” aluminum boat.
With this strange weather, the bass had a classic case of lockjaw but we managed to land 3 keepers on Friday night. Although we were discouraged, we headed to the weigh in, only to find no one else had a weigh able fish. Now all the strange looks were for a different reason, these guys in the tin boat could catch fish. Saturday night results were even worse with us only weighing 1 keeper for 4 bass weighing 10 lb. 2 oz., enough for first place overall.

Key lesson learned here! Don’t judge a book by its cover! Some of the best anglers I know don’t wear Columbia fishing gear and couldn’t tell Denny Brauer from Jimmy Houston!

Man I sure wish I could get over there to fish with you. It would be a great to catch some fish on TB. One of these days I'm going to get back in the BFL and come out there and fish with you.

Just a little update my buddy Pat was at his brothers camp Friday working on the central A/C unit. About 6:00 or so he when out to one of the main lake ridge flipping a jig. He only got 2 bites one 3.0# and one 7.0#. Aint bad for 2 1/2 hours of fishing!

Pat & I were at the lake on 9/25 & 9/26, fishing was real slow. We caught 18 with none over the legal minimum of 14".

Went again on 10/4 & 10/5, we arrived at the lake around 3:30. After fishing the 944 area we managed only 6 fish with 1 over 14". On the 5 th we arrived on a main lake ridge about 7:00 am. Got my first bite at 7:21 am & landed a 7.5 lb hawg, which turn out to be the only fish of the day. What a reason to pitch a jig!

I do have pictures but I'm having a problem scanning them to a disk. I've scanned them twice on different machines, the first you couldn't open at all, the second would only open half way.

Catt,

Try adjusting the DPI settings and the percentage ratio.

Start with 50% with no more than 300 DPI. You want to try and keep the file size down as much as possible.
