Bass and Crappie catching at Stick Marsh and Farm 13 are unbelievable. Crappie wise everyone is getting their limit of real nice ones. Crappie are being caught on about anything the angler uses. Bass are eating up every wild shiner that comes close to the water and the bass are also eating a variety of bass lures.
The bass are in the spawning areas. Grass is a help but not a necessity. Bass can be caught on Texas rigged soft plastics, spinnerbaits, Bungees, Senkos, Hard jerkbaits, soft jerkbaits, and just about any lure that goes below the surface and can be worked slow.
The spillway was running when I left the lake today. During the week the gates at the ramp and the pumping station were running. These areas were best fished with Carolina rigged soft plastics. The bass preferred larger lures.
On Wednesday (New Years Day) an old client of mine wanted to show a friend and his six year old boy a good bass catching time. We went to the lake with fifteen (15) dozen wild shiners. They were all eaten by bass. We had to go home a half hour early because we ran out of bait. The six year old boy caught the fewest- 25. He set the hook himself. We were using Carolina rigged shiners in the spillway. The boy had the fewest bass of the three. My old client probably trippled or better the boy so... guess we had a 125 to 150 bass day. All I know for sure is that the three of them sure kept me busy.
