LONG ISLANDERS - WHAT'S THE WORD?

Post by brendanc »

Anyone been out on the Long Island ponds? How has the fishing been on Forge Pond, Upper Mills, Ronk, Shelter, etc.

I have only had the little boat out a couple of times this season and am just curious how the fishing has been.

Thanks,

BC

brendan my man, well forge is tough right now we. had weeds that you can walk on about a few weeks ago and now nothing is there. ronk is ronk with the warm weather in now fishing is hard they are deeper. but in the evening it's not to bad, cranks and senkos do the trick in the 7-12ft depth. haven't been to mills hard to get the boat in with the ramp choped up. trailer will take a beating on the nice drop from the road. swan is swan. and H.H. i don't know if the water is still up the entrance of the ramp. that's all i have for the island.

Upper Mills hot at night won tournament there 4 weeks ago but reports coming in on night action heating up.
Forge small limit of 12lbs won a tournament for me last week. Black Grape tubes rigged Texas style. If you need them I have them.
Swan Won one there two weeks ago with a slob and another good bass for 11lbs total or so. Bren, give me a ring.

Nothing really big happening by me in Ridge. Artist still produces high numbers, Lower is Weedy, but still produces in the evening. Upper Lake is pretty good, and the heavy weeds make fishing fun (literally, I love to fish the stuff). Pine is still Pine with a decent fish coming out every once and a while. Besides that nothing much else going on. So I have been spending more time making my custom baits for the fall, and SCUBA Diving. Hows Laurel? Anyone fish it?

L.D.,

I haven't been to Laurel in years... it's a pain to get back in there. I would also be interested in hearing about Laurel.

Thanks for the response...

If you want I would be more then glad to Fish it with you one night. We can drag the Crawdad down the ramp. That is what I have done in the past. Its just good to have someone else there to watch the gear to make sure it dosent wander.

That might be a possibility. I am pretty booked up for the next few weeks. We'll have to play it by ear...

I direct your attention to the Patchogue area lakes.......big fish the past few trips out there. I fished with Jim F a former LIB guy two weeks ago and we won a tournament with about 13lbs. Each of us lost a good jig fish that would have put us up around 20lbs or so.

Hey Dave,

If you are out there, I was wondering if you have a few recommendations for any LI lakes/ponds with strong populations of Crappie and Perch? Something that maybe would be easy to fish from shore?

Thanks,
