My Baitcast rod need comments.

Post by Curado24 »

I recently bought my new baitcast outfit from BPS. I got the Shimano Curado along with the Xtreme rod. I got a 7' Medium heavy rod. My question is that is my rod too heavy to work worms and tube baits? I wanted a overall rod and I could fish cranks, spinnerbaits, and soft plastic worms all on one rod. Did I pick the correct one?

It isn't a bad choice as you will be able to work those baits. I may have opted for a medium action which has a slightly softer tip. Better for spinnerbaits and topwater.

don't know if your fishing from shore or boat,7ft may be to long from shore or if you are a small person like me(5'6).all my rods are 6'6. and as for throwing worms and tubes, i would have gone to a spinning outfit . unless your pithing and flipping!!med/hvy rod is okay if you have a fast tip!!! cause most of the plastics you throw will have lite line and very little weight!!!!!! hope this helped.

Most of the time I do fish from shore and as for being short I am definately not.(I am 6'8) I fished with it yesterday on worms and it seemed to be very responsive and worked quite well. Just was wondering if I should've gotten a 6'6 rod, but I really like the 7'.

7' Will help you make longer casts and give you more leverage/control over the fish. If I could only get one baitcaster today, that would be the one...

Seems like the Extreme is a great rod. If I get one later this fall or winter, it will probably be the 6-6 medium. It can help me accomplish more different things than a longer/heavier rod can.

I told you I've been taking notes. (But I might have to take a real job to afford it!)

I have a BPS Extreme 7" rod. I am currently throwing weightless senkos, but change around, and it works good for all kinds of technics. I'm a slinger, I have several 6'6" rods, but actually like my 7 footers better. Maybe if I did pitching/flipping or something I might like a shoter one.

Nice try Ray... I'm 5'5" and 've got it backwards you "I'm taller than you"...

That's probally why I don't have a problem with the 7' Rod and you do...

Actually, Even midget's can use 7' rods if they are flippin' & pitchin' correctly. You need to adjust the amount of line you have out when you flip or pitch...

Either way, it's what you are comfortable with that matters...

From what I have seen in this thread, you are an "extreme" bunch of guys. lol

I think length of the rod is a personal choice. For example, I use my 7-6 Flippin' Sticks when I C-rig. It's great (for me) if I decide that I need a longer leader. I won't be tripping over anything.

Besides, my doctor says I've lost a half inch in the last year. (no wisecracks) I was 5-10
up until then.

Thanks for posting. Good thread. JoeMo
